VIENNA, Austria (AP) - The U.N. atomic watchdog agency Friday approved setting up a committee to crack down on rogue states seeking to develop weapons and their black market suppliers, but the group will not have any of the enforcement powers sought by President Bush.
The document creating the committee did not contain any U.S. proposals floated at an agency meeting, including giving the group authority to recommend U.N. Security Council action against - and special inspections for - suspected proliferators. The United States has accused North Korea and Iran of secretly running nuclear weapons programs.
For those paying attention, this is the group the yesterday voted to allow Saudi Arabia to develop nuc without any oversight.

Day late. Dollar short.
Way to be on top of things, guys.
LOL. I'm looking forward to the head of this agency brandishing a piece of paper, signed by Kim Jung IL, and promising us peace in our time.
Kim Jong Il: "Or else . . . what?"
Hans Brix: "Or else we will be very, very angry with you, and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are!"
Kim Jong Il had better comply with the UN or else he'll get a good talking to.
Fortunately, the Bush administration found out that Kim was up to no good thereby ending the "Give Kim a Kiss for me" policy of the Clinton Administration.
By the time the UN is done with their 10,000,000 meetings on this, the only nation they'll be able to stop will be Ethiopia ... and maybe on that.
No, you gotta follow protocol: First will come the impatient tapping of the feet while giving a disapproving frown.
I was thinking they might convince Haiti that nuclear weapons are not a good idea.
Can't guarantee that.
Just the other day I was telling a friend that the UN really needs to develop another meaningless beaurocracy to pretend to deal with nuclear proliferation.
That compliance is what I'm afraid of.
Actually, it's The Vatican that they'll be stopping.
Oh yeah, I always forget their nuclear ambitions ... I gotta stop doing that, could be costly some day.
All bureaucrats are the same. Creating another bureaucracy is the response to everything, even nuclear war.
