Random news from various sources (
Jayski,
BGN Racing,
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-a week late, but an item of note nonetheless) -
- Fill-in drivers for the Buschwhackers if we repeat last weekend -
- Jay Sauter in the #66 for Greg Biffle
- Kerry Earnhardt in the #99 for Michael Waltrip
- Hank Parker Jr in the #60 for Carl Edwards
- No word on either Rusty Wallace-#64 or Sterling Marlin-#40 (or, for that matter, Derrike Cope)
- Chip Gnassi will be making an announcement Sunday regarding sponsorship and the 2006 season
- NASCAR is considering giving the Busch regulars either more money or more points than the Buschwhackers next year.
- Martin Truex Jr will make his Craftsman Truck debut at the Milwaukee Mile next weekend.
- Speaking of the Mile, the oldest track in the world will be getting the SAFER barrier in time for next year's slate of racing
- Mark Martin is planning on pulling triple-duty at Homestead to end the year in order to get used to the Trucks, which he'll be running full-time next year.

I picked up a gunny sack full of pine cones on my way back from Redding last week. I guess the question now is... did you coat them with peanut butter?

And The Other Race (35th in Cup/30th in Busch and Trucks) -
- In Cup, the top 33 ending with the #21 of Ricky Rudd will stay in the top 35. The #4 of Mike Wallace, #22 of Scott Wimmer and #11 of Jason Leffler will be battling for the last 2 spots in the top 35. Everyone else below Leffler cannot catch 35th this weekend.
- In Busch, the top 27 ending with the #26 of Stanton Barrett will stay in the top 30; this includes the idle #90 Yates Ford. The #6 (with Casey Atwood this weekend), #12 of Tim Fedewa and #58 of Regan Smith are the teams that can be knocked out, while the #10 of Michel Jourdain Jr (appears to be guaranteed the 30th spot this weekend because of the Yates absence), #4 of Ryan Hemphill, #28 of Derrike Cope, #23 of Mark Green, #143 of Aaron Fike and #49 of Steve Grissom all have a shot of catching 30th.
- In the Trucks, the top 22 ending with the #50 of Todd Kleuver will stay in the top 30. The #07 of Sean Murphy, #59 of Robert Pressley, #13 of Tracy Hines, #12 of Robert Huffman, #08 of Johnny Chapman, #77 of Brendan Gaughan, #18 of Chase Montgomery and #38 of Brandon Whitt will be looking to keep the #02 of Kelly Sutton and #8 of Deborah Renshaw out of the top 30.

My wife and I saw it last night. It was outstanding. Plus I love what Rodger Ebert wrote about the car (never referred to as the Batmobile in the movie) saying,"unlike the streamlined models in the earlier movies, is a big, unlovely juggernaut that looks like a Humvee's wet dream." Are there lot's of explosions and such? Absolutely. But believe it or not there's a great story.

I'll wait until we know who's in the race (if Crash Gordon makes it with his cheap Menard's engine, I'll have to up things by one).
