SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- Rachael Strong said she was 18 and "too scared to resist" a marriage to a polygamist in his 60s who scheduled nights with his 17 wives on a calendar and ordered them to use birth control.

She eventually broke away from the polygamous sect and said she can provide evidence of rape and bigamy at The True and Living Church in Manti, Utah -- but claims authorities won't listen.

"Here I am," the 20-year-old Strong declared Wednesday at the Utah Capitol, in a lobby two floors under Attorney General Mark Shurtleff's office. "For over six months I've been willing to testify."

Oh come on, let's not be intolerant bigots. These polygamists deserve all the equal protections gays do in order to get married... /sarc

It won't happen (prosecution) in Utah. I recall a couple of years ago, someone in the Utah legislature proposed a new police agency charged with going after polygamists.

The legislature turned this down because it was the general consensus it would be unfair to single out polygamists...

Now having more than five wives is just plain greedy. And his Viagra bill must have looked like the national debt ;)

Is the guy legally married to all 17 women? Or is he just legally married to one (or none) and either shacking up with the rest or only married to the rest in the eyes of some church?

LOL..I agree! and since he wanted all the women to take Birth Control he was just out to be the PIG he truly is..

These women should of kicked him to the curb and if they were going to be polygamists find at least a man half his age

What, 60 year-old men having sex with 17 women are pigs, but 30 year-old men doing the same are just engaging in routine sexual pleasures?

You may be right that the authorities are reluctant to prosecute polygamy involving consenting adults. Politicians still remember what happened to the governor of Arizona back in the 1950s:

Gov. Howard Pyle ordered a 1953 raid on the Colorado City area, then known as Short Creek, that resulted in the arrest of polygamist husbands. Most of the criminal indictments were eventually thrown out, and bad publicity from the raid was blamed for ending Pyle's political career. (Arizona Republic, 2 October 2002)

(Colorado City, Arizona, is just over the state line from Hildale, Utah. Both towns are populated by polygamists.)

However, the state of Utah is cracking down on polygamy involving underaged girls. The legislature recently passed a law that makes "child bigamy"—cohabitation or marriage between a married adult and a minor — a felony. There have been arrests and proescutions under the new law.

That's not what I am saying but if I was 18 or 20 and I was a polygamist, I am not going with some 60 yr old PIG rather go with a 30 yr old PIG.

Unfortnately, most of these marriages are arranged for them. They don't have any choice on their pigs!

Well maybe these girls who are in polygamists sects should ban together and have PIG elections! and omit all the pedophiles off the ballot! but then there would proably be no PIGS on the ballot therefore no candidates to choose from and girls can flee the coop!

See there I came up with a solution! :)

One of the things not often mentioned here is that the polygamists are USUALLY supported by your (and my) tax dollars. All but one of the wives are classified as unwed mothers and get all kinds of government handouts. That is why the "man" of the house has so much time on his hands. The money does not go to the women. It goes to him. He doesn't have to work for a living.

There was a multi-day expose' on this in the Denver newspaper a few years ago. The highest rates of welfare in Utah are not in urban areas. They are in small towns near the border. The places where polygamists hang out.
