Frist to force filibuster-ending vote
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said yesterday he will force another vote to end a filibuster of President Bush's pick to be ambassador to the United Nations at the end of this week....
No votes on Fri so the showdown must be today..

You bet.
Since it didn't pass, it's been given a quick death.
99% of the time I think no one knows what Share-Odd Brown is talking about. My question is, do any of these Democrats know of an invention called "the comb"? They all show up to speak on the floor looking like they rolled out of bed in their clothes.
Please ask your husband if Dianna needs to worry...
I have a 7 year old son who might have been in the pool at the same time the dead bat was in the skimmer. No one touched the bat.
I know for sure that I checked the pool chemicals, so the chlorine and stuff were at good levels. Do you suppose that would kill rabies germs?
Just got home......Thanks for all the good posts today....
Looks like "A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL".....Which is my favorite misplaced headline in our small town paper....Was placed directly above a family reunion story, but right below an "alleged rape" story .....
The same paper advertised 2,014 pigs for sale....Should have read two sows and fourteen pigs.
I would bet on it being Walter Jones of NC , I think, the same guy that was on the weekend talk shows!
Monday, 5PM, the Senate goes into executive session. Time from 5 to 6PM is equally divided between the parties.
At 6 PM there should be be a SERIES of votes. The first two votes are a GIVEN, they WILL happen.
They have already made up their mind to vote NAY, therefore they don't need any more negative information. Therefore they are ready to vote. Therefore, they have no reason to vote NO on cloture.
At 6 PM there should be be a SERIES of TWO votes. The two votes are a GIVEN, they WILL happen.
the Presiding Officer shall, without debate, submit to the Senate by a yea-and-nay vote the question:"Is it the sense of the Senate that the debate shall be brought to a close?" And if that question shall be decided in the affirmative by three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn ... then said measure, motion, or other matter pending before the Senate, or the unfinished business, shall be the unfinished business to the exclusion of all other business until disposed of.

I am curious what contingency Frist has planned in case the cloture motion fails. There are options, of course. On would be to raise the point of order that has been referred to as the nuclear option. That is somewhat complicated by the DEMs posture of wanting more information, but as I have pointed out before, the answer to the DEM canard is simple.
They have already made up their mind to vote NAY. Therefore they don't need any additional evidence to support their position. Therefore they are ready to vote. Therefore, they have no reason to vote NO on cloture.

There cannot be a Motion to Reconsider, yet again, the cloture vote of May 26th. One bite at that apple. The options are to give up, to file another cloture motion and play again, or to go nuclear on the spot.
Thanks for the update on the possibilities left with Bolton.
Ping.
I didn't know that. The Rats will try to find a way to subvert the rules. Again.
I hope Frist does that. It is completely ridiculous that we still don't have a UN ambassador by now. And the reasons the dems are holding him up are ludicrous.
IMO the dems are trying to toss anything into the news just to smear Bolton to make him a less effective UN ambassador.
I can see it now ever time Bolton is talked about in the news they'll put a "contriversial" or "contested" description before his name when they start the story.
I don't recall how I found it the first time. Google I think, prompted by a phrase uttered from the Senate. I (obviously) keep a link handy.
Ont thing about it - it DOES change daily! So while it's an outstanding window on what is planned for the day, it is lousy as a historical reference.
I think the cloture motion for Bolton's confirmation vote will pass on Monday. Many Senators, especially those with presidential aspirations, do not want to set precedent that undermines ability of the president to name his own team for foreign policy. There is further discussion of DEM likelihood of refusing to vote on the Bolton nomination on my profile page, in the context of which judicial nomination is most likely to cause the DEMs to pull the nuclear trigger.
Remember, FRIST does NOT have the trigger! He has the device, but not the trigger. DEM refusal to pass the cloture motion is the trigger.
I can't seem to find that.
Or a recess appointment.
Thanks for the info on your info page. I thought the vote RE:Bolton was supposed to be today (6/17)...
Good info, thanks for the link!
Good Meorning, anyone around listening to Rush?
Unfortunately, I don't get Rush for about a half hour...
What is he talking about?
Durbin, and Rush said that the FBI has said that Durbin mischaracterized and added to and twisted that memo by reading into it things that are not there! WHOA!
