I married a woman whose Father is a died-in-the-wool Democrat and a local politician (Mayor). The entire family is blind to the clinton degeneracy and criminality and hangs upon every mischaracterization by a dem leader, swallowing some of the most astonishing lies. It is a point of great depression for me to see otherwise rational people so blind to facts because 'they want to win again'. My wife has a standing order to not discuss politics or the news with her father or brother while in her presence. They know of this order and try to bait me at every opportunity. I've taken to using quips for bullet bytes. Even my wife gets a kick out of them.

I just gently keep asking questions, they answer until they cannot answer anymore, (because suddenly the absence of logic dawns on them), and say, "well, I don't pay as much attention to politics as you"!

This always works with conspiracies about Bush and the war, and it works with policy debate also.
