| RUSH: (story) "President Bush last night ripped the Democratic Party as do-nothing obstructionists bent on derailing his reform agenda, saying that on issue after issue, Democratic leaders in Congress 'stand for nothing except obstruction, and this is not leadership.' At an evening congressional gala at the Washington Convention Center -- which drew $23 million for House and Senate Republican candidates and amounted to the kickoff of the 2006 political campaign season -- the president drew standing ovations from Republican faithful as he hammered Democrats for offering no solutions to the nation's most pressing problems." We have three sound bites on this, and we'll start with number five, Mister Broadcast Engineer, and as I say, "It's about time." It really is about time we heard this. This is not politics. This is the president reacting intellectually, honestly, to what the Democratic Party is doing. BUSH: I'm proud to be the head of a party that has a positive and hopeful and optimistic vision for every single person who lives in this country. And I'm proud to be a head of a party that is driving debate on all the key domestic and foreign policy issues. (Applause.) Because of our achievements, the American people see us as the party of reform and optimism and results. The party that is moving this nation forward. (Applause.) All of us in Washington have a duty to the people who sent us here. Political parties can take one of two approaches. One approach is to lead, to focus on the people's business, to take on the tough problems, and that is exactly what our party is doing. (Applause.) RUSH: He starts out reciting the optimistic things and the positive things the Republican Party is doing, and next he starts in on the Democrats. BUSH: --simply do nothing, to delay solutions, obstruct progress, refuse to take responsibility. Members of the other party have worked with us to achieve important reforms on some issues. Yet too often their leadership prefers to block the ideas of others. We hear no to making tax relief permanent, we hear no to Social Security reform, hear no to confirming federal judges, we hear no to a highly qualified UN ambassador, we hear no to medical liability reform on issue after issue. They stand for nothing except obstruction and this is not leadership. RUSH: In the next bite the -- BUSH: (applause) |
RUSH: Yes, let's hear it. (Applause.) It's about time. Hubba hubba, dooba dooba. By the way, folks, I don't know. Mr. Snerdley I know watches the news every morning here. Did you see anything on this on the news? Very little. There has just been very little about this on the news. What am I hearing in the background here? Wait a second. You hear it? Have I got something on back here? Oh, okay. We got something on the mix minus. Never mind, folks, I got something in my IFB, I don't know if you can hear it or not, but nevertheless we haven't heard much about this at all in the mainstream press. You would think that the media would be all over this because Bush is accusing the Democrats of being obstructionist and being mean. And yet they're ignoring it. Why? Why is this not all over cable news today? And it may not be on the news tonight. The evening newscasts tonight. We'll have to wait and see. Well, I know why. They don't want to show this. They don't want to have to run to the Democrats and ask, "What do you think about this?" They don't want to have to run to the Democrats and say, "Okay, Senator Leahy, Senator Kennedy, what do you think about what the president said?" They don't. This is Bush as the leader of the Republican Party, not just the president of the United States, this is Bush as a leader of the Republican Party and they don't want that side of him seen. We got one more sound bite, and in this one Bush calls the Democrat approach the philosophy of the stop sign. BUSH: It is the philosophy of the stop sign. The agenda of the roadblock, and our country and our children deserve better. (Applause.) Political parties that choose the path of obstruction will not gain the trust of the American people. If leaders of the other party have innovative ideas, let's hear them. But if they have no ideas or policies except obstruction, they should step aside and let others lead. (Applause.) RUSH: Do you hear how this crowd loves that? Do you hear that, folks? Crowd is eating this stuff up. People have been wanting to hear this for months out of this White House. Well, it's a new New Tone. I don't know if it's going to last, but it's a new New Tone and it's about time. I can't tell you, folks, I mean a lot of people ask, "Why doesn't Bush say this, why doesn't Bush say that?" So we'll see if this continues. It did this morning. He spoke at the annual energy efficiency forum industry. Officials from public and private sectors were there and here's a portion of the president's remarks. BUSH: Summer's here, temperatures are rising, and tempers will really rise if Congress doesn't pass an energy bill. (Applause.) The American people know that an energy bill will not change the price of gases immediately. But they're not going to tolerate inaction in Washington as they watch the underlying problems grow worse. RUSH: You know what's holding up the energy bill is the same old thing, ANWR. The Democrats don't want to go along with anything that will create our own sources of oil. OPEC announced today that they're going to raise production trying to halt the increase in the per-barrel price. It didn't slow down the increase very much, if anything at all. But there's something about this, and I've made this point on many prior occasions. Over the course of my long and star-studded career as your host behind the Golden EIB Microphone, whenever gasoline prices have gone up, at whatever stage they were, you always hear from the left, "Well, you know, it's about time, look at what they're paying over in Europe. I mean, they're paying twice what we pay. We're getting away with too much here. We ought to be paying more, we ought to be paying more for gasoline." I've heard this 20 years, even when gasoline prices are not going up. Some liberals, some environmentalist wackos still get upset how little we're paying for gas. Now all of a sudden the gasoline price is going up and who's leading the charge here to do something about it? The very people who think that it ought to be going up. Why? Because they're not intellectually honest. They're for anything that they think is going to hurt the president right now, and if they think high gas prices will do it and harping on it, then of course they'll jump on the case. More evidence that you can't trust what comes out of their mouths as what they honestly and truly believe about things and that's why it would be really dangerous to elect these people, because you don't know -- despite what they say -- well, we do know what they believe, that's the thing. That's why we know that so much that comes out of their mouths is actually BS. Now, the New York Times today does have a story on the president's speech last night, their headline: Bush Denounces Democrats as Focusing on Obstruction. They didn't assign one of their top drawer reporters to it, it's not a very long story. They do quote him accurately in it, though. I just haven't seen a whole lot of it out there. And, you know, this is fire and brimstone stuff that's being ignored. And I think understandably so. END TRANSCRIPT |
Talk is cheap Mr. President. I'm hoping for a little more (conservative) action from you.
The 'rats are reeling alright. Maybe all they need is a knockout punch.
"Four years ago I proposed a comprehensive energy plan for the start of the 21st century.
I knew the pressures on energy supplies would increase as my fiscal policies and tax cuts stimulated our economic engine.
I knew we needed more oil and gas.
I knew we needed more refineries.
And I knew nuclear power must be added to our plans for the future.
After all, France and Iran are spearheading nuclear energy in their own countries.
Surely we are as progressive as France.
Well, I tried, but my opponents in the other party tried to deny me any success.
And so far they have been winning.
That's why the price of gas at the pump is so high today.
You can blame those Democrat bums in the Senate.
They don't care a dribble for you, the American people.
They are blinded by their resentment of me.
My plan would easily add several million high-paying new jobs in the construction, heavy equipment, roadbuilding and engineering sectors of our economy.
Jobs that could not be outsourced.
But if you prefer $3 a gallon gasoline, you will get it if we do nothing.
If you think we can do better, get on the phone to your Democrat Senators and Representatives, and let them know that we can do better.
And if they still do nothing...if they prefer to pay for foreign oil and be held hostage to foreign suppliers of energy, tell them you've had enough and plan to vote them out of office.
Now I don't have to worry about running again, so I can speak the truth, no matter how difficult it is to hear.
Senators like Leahy., Kennedy and the like are anti-American drags on our nation's prosperity.
You bet I'm mad.
We are Americans!
We can do better!
Now let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.
The American genius for invention and ingenuity cannot be waylayed even by a bunch of partisan hacks who mostly bought their seats in the Senate.
And another thing......
you environmental wackos out there...you know who you are.......constantly talk about conservation and alternative energy.
Well. that's just fine.
Unless there's a plan to build a wind farm within view of your ocean-front mansions.
And how about your private jets and fancy limosines?
I was elected to represent all the American people.
Many of you don't like me much.
I accept that.
But I am right on this energy thing...you know I am."
This is good...for starters.
Now take your message directly to the American people Mr President...and fight hard for conservative principles and your conservative appointees. Righteous anger is a good thing at times.
Let the chips fall where they may...
Perfecto!
Bend over, Dems... yeah. how does that feel? Sorry, I'm all out of K.Y... but you're a big man, you can take it.

Welcome to FR. :\
Sigh. I don't think she's a troll. We've got members going back to '98 or '01 referring to him as a non conservative, traitor, etc.
One even nicknamed the White House the Wh*re house.
What she said was minor, but also reflective of a growing discontent among conservatives. :6
Perhaps. Though not everyone dating back in length is a conservative.
But when they start addressing him in DU terms they cross a line. Not the case with this one but, imo, credibility as a conservative takes a severe dive when someone resorts to the language and attitude of moveon.org.
Thank you. I'm really not so bad once you get to know me. ;) I have been disappointed with the Pres. his 2nd term. Between our w i d e open borders, not staying strong on SS and the out of control spending (which I know I can't put entirely on his shoulders) but I'm really hoping he'll turn it around. I'm sorry if I offended.
Nice stuff, but preaching to the choir. Take this attitude to the American People, and I'll be a little more impressed. It's a start, I reckon.
Well non-defense non-homeland security spending has been cut. So do you want him to cut the military like Clinton did? Maybe Bush should cut the Naval Fleet in 1/2 like Clinton did?
Welcome to FR. Judge (after about a year) and be prepared to be judged (always).
It was when Clinton was in there.
Gosh no. I'm all for spending when it keeps our citizenry & military personnel safe. But, when we are running such high defecits (which is necessary in times of war, I understand) why increase aid to Africa, for example? I don't believe the $$ we send helps the people who need it & just lines the pockets of the brutal dictators.
Agreed. I hate it when they devolve to that level. I have issues with Pres. Bush too but there is no need to defame and slander him. From what they are saying, the Pres. is a socialist traitor. Geez. :e
Haw, haw, haw! You are correct, sir!
