Dean, Moyers, and the Dems' Weird Attitude toward Christians

For sheer inanity, you can't beat the Democratic Party.

If Shaquille O'Neal were to harangue fans not to root for the Detroit Pistons because there were too many black men on their team, we might think he'd come unhinged. But Dems don't think it's a bit odd to have Howard Dean fulminating about there being too many "white Christians" in the Republican Party.

Dean can't hold a candle to Bill Moyers, though. To hear him rant and sputter against "Christians," you'd think he was auditioning for a spot on al-Qaeda Radio. Makes you wonder where he thinks he's going to spend eternity.

Both Dean and Moyers say they're Christians. Presumably they admit to being white. For the Dems to have this pair of white Christians denouncing white Christians does not argue that this party has a fine sense of the fitness of things.

No one will mistake either of these guys for Rastafarians. There is no substance to the rumor that Dean is trying to grow dreadlocks. But could phony dreadlocks make these clowns look any more ridiculous than they are? Dean is the chairman of the DNC, the official voice of the Democratic Party. Moyers was for long the big star at Public Broadcasting, another organ of the Democratic Party. Both seem to have studied at the Cameron Diaz School of Political Philosophy.

Can we fathom the meaning of their message?

Obviously, Dean is saying that having too many white Christians in a political party is a bad thing. He wants more "diversity." But when President Bush, a Republican, tried to confer appointments to high office on Condoleeza Rice and Janice Rogers Brown, African-Americans, and Linda Chavez, Alberto Gonzales, and Miguel Estrada, Hispanic-Americans, the Democrats in the Senate savaged them.

Would Dean object if all the white Christian Republicans came over to his party? Would they have to convert to another religion--Earth goddess-worship springs to mind--before being allowed to join?

Moyers accuses "Christians" of plotting to stage a theocratic coup d'etat, installing themselves as tyrants and abolishing everything worthwhile--from partial birth abortion to gay sex workshops for elementary school children--from American life. So we must infer that Moyers would object strenuously to bringing such people into his beloved Democratic Party.

So, then, what are these two complaining for? Those naughty white Christians are right where they belong--in the Republican Party. And Howard Dean and Bill Moyers will do a very good job of keeping them there.

Dean and Moyers are merely expressing their prejudice against Christians - and for political reasons. If there was an influx of, say, Jews into the Republican Party, they would rant against Jews. Their Democratic friends trashed Rice and Estrada - "minorities" who wandered off the political reservation.
