The Marines make due nicely. They put MacGyver to shame.

Sounds like a little Air Force jealousy, to me.

:)

Please, look at the picture in #73. Is that building on the right side YRMC?

Thank God, I know a Marine Harrier pilot who lives in Yuma.

Actually the Coasties are the smallest force, but they have a larger budget than the Marine Corps. The corps recieves less than 9% of the overall DOD budget. The Navy & Air Force recieves a large part of the monies due to they have the most expensive toys, and are always fighting for the bigger newer toys to play with. Never mind that most in these two services will not see any combat time where as a Marine is expected to be ready to drop what ever they are doing and go on patrol like any "grunt". In fact ALL Marines are riflemen first then whatever your job is second, whether that be a supply clerk, records clerk, cook, truck driver, Crash crewman,ect...[you get the idea] So we may get our headlines, we don't get enough of the DOD pie by a long shot.

No arguments here....you guys get the shaft...this is coming from an Airman.

Never mind that most in these two services will not see any combat time where as a Marine is expected to be ready to drop what ever they are doing and go on patrol like any "grunt".

I can't speak of the Navy but the Air Force has been doing a helluva lot of ground work in Iraq and Afghanistan...plus it's not technically our mission. We do our mission and we do a damned good job at it....such as the Marines do a damned good job at theirs.

You didn't do it but it burns me when people say the USAF doesn't do anything or never fights.

The A/F has a lot of ground types that do a lot, but their main focus is not combat. That is not a put down either, they have to have runways repaired,a/d to take care of,SAR ops to do just in case some pilot says oooppppssss I think I have a problem, to the cooks,medics,ect... It is just that their main focus is not putting lead downrange, thats all.

From what I can see yes. It is the only 6 story building in town, the only 2 structures taller than it are the water tower & the control tower at the air field.

Looks like the a/c was coming in on runway 17/35 and lost his hydraulics & or electrical systems, from the viedo that I have seen.

The reports say no one on the ground hurt, thank God. I have an elderly Aunt living there. Don't have her street address though, and since she crashed her PC, I don't have email either grrrrrrr

I flew into Yuma last year in my Lancair.

"My Lancair" most excellent!

Any details or photos of your Lancair available for posting?

When that big rolls royce pegacus engine cuts out the AV8B has less glide ratio than an F4. Meaning it flies like a brick or less with out an engine!

The Navy does most of the acquisition for the Marines too, right? That would account for some of the disparity.
