ROHNERT PARK Woman attacked by family's pit bull - Leslie Fulbright Wednesday, June 15, 2005 A 66-year-old Rohnert Park woman was seriously injured by her family's pit bull Tuesday when she tried to prevent the dog from attacking her son, police said. Tommie Munoz was arguing with her 36-year-old son when the terrier began to attack him. In an attempt to protect him, Munoz stepped in, and the dog began to attack her, according to police. Munoz's other son began to beat the dog with a shovel and eventually was able to lock the dog in a bedroom. Animal shelter officials later used a Taser to subdue the dog. Munoz was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Police did not release her condition.

Okay, keeper of the body parts, how's that?
They are really very sweet dogs. They have wonderful dispositions. This dog probably wasn't trained exactly right according to the super-secret perfect pit bull training rules. It's the victim's fault the dog attacked.
Why do all of these cases sound like they come from the same file someone keeps cutting and pasting from? Family fight, pit bull attacks, blah blah. Thank God, the beast was not out on the streets eating little children at least.
I have been told, repeatedly, that events like this are rare.
I know other breeds attack their owners (know of a labrador that bit her owner's face up - requiring 67 stitches). That never made it to press here.
Not that uncommon with dogs with high pack drive. With dogs you'll see it occur pretty often that the alpha attacks a subordinate dog and then other members of the pack lay into that dog as well. It can happen with dogs and families that own them as well. People who own dogs need to be aware of the way dogs' minds function and either control their temper or control their dog if they see that it gets agitated or aggressive when there is an argument going on.
"There will be no fighting here."

Our Lab will start whining and get upset if we argue. You can tell who is "losing" by whose lap she gets up on (all 80 lbs of her).

LOL indeed...I was about to flame the original post for putting up a story that's over a week old, but it turns out that this is indeed the second pit bull attack in the SF area in less than two weeks.
And my recollection for Oakland, on the other side of the bay, is that there have been two or three there so far this year as well.
LOL, you have heard me too many times on this issue. Genetics rules the day here, not environment.
I really won't blame a protection dog for trying to intervene in a fight.
I think because there are practically daily serious attacks by pitbulls. These vicious bastards have been bred for one purpose, attack other life forms.
It's tough to overcome genetic tendencies. Bird dogs tend to act like bird dogs and fighting dogs are bred to be aggressive and fight.
Statiscally, other dogs bite more often than Pits do. BUT! Pit Bulls maul and kill far more than any other dog.
Pit bulls are shorter Aliens.
Knowing labs that was probably one severe tongue lashing to do that much damage. I have a lab that was severely abused by the punk who had him before and the lab still is a sweet animal. I don't know what you'd have to do to get one to attack its owner.
