Vice President Dick Cheney yesterday issued a vigorous defense of the administration's treatment of prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay naval base, brushing aside calls to close the facility. "Those who are most urgently advocating that we shut down Guantanamo probably don't agree with our policies anyway," Mr. Cheney told reporters at the National Press Club. "These people have been treated far better than they could be expected to have been treated by virtually any other government on the face of the Earth," he added.
Mr. Cheney's remarks were part of a coordinated counteroffensive by Republicans in the White House and on Capitol Hill against critics who want to close the prison in Cuba. Rep. Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, held a press conference to display typical meals for prisoners, including oven fried chicken, rice, vegetables, fruit and tea.
[snip] But yesterday, Mr. Cheney emphasized that some of the 200 detainees who have been released have resumed terrorist activity against U.S. interests. He cited two men who returned to Afghanistan and plotted various attacks before being killed by U.S. and Afghan forces.

IMAGINE HOW WE WOULD FEEL IF 200 AMERICANS WERE held under the same facilities for the same number of years..." If government fools like Leahy and Biden continue to champion the enemy combantants rather than praise their own brave American soldiers, they need to be removed from their lofty committees if not their Senate chairs! They are dangerously close to treason.
Rats,RINO's, and losers want it closed and we should listen to them? I think not!
But Hillary might be President some day and she might use GITMO to hold conservatives who oppose her and she might have American soldiers whiz on our Bibles.
When they pledged allegiance to AL Queda these individuals sealed their fate. We should hold them until AL Queda ceases to exists or undeclares war on the US.
The only Cuban prison the world frets about is the only one under US control.
Too true and yet unbelievable.
The administration is approaching this all wrong in trying to use reason and logic with the libs. Sedition laws should be invoked those giving aid and comfort to the enemy should themselves be hauled off and held at Gitmo and tried on charges of treason.
"Chuck Hagel, Sen. Mel Martinez, Joe Biden; Leahy had this to say..."
I caught a glance of CNN with the not closing down of Gitmo as big headline news. Just another sorry attempt to make news out of non-news. These people - MSM and Dems - are so devoid of any new ideas, new plans, and positivity; they are so screwed up and pathetic that the only thing that they can muster is to be against everything. 100% Losers in Loserville.
The saddest part of this is that our representatives in the Senate are so spineless and pathetic - they will do anything to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. These are the folks that we need to work over; we don't need our enemies to turn a new leaf in order for us to be victorious; it's our so-called friends and allies in the Senate that are messing this up.

... As a distraction until she orders Arkansas' very own serving-at-the-pleassure-of-el-presidente general 'perfumed-princeling' KKKlark's Delta Force tanks in to gas and crush and burn US all out and its marksmen to slaughter any of US who at first manage to escape the tanks, the gas and the inferno.
What I don't understand is; if Gitmo is so bad it's a gulag why are AI, and their comrads, against rendition? Isn't Gitmo supposed to be the worst? Follow the thought and everything else is better. Let's hear it for rendition!

True.
Well said.

Under Islamic law, non-Muslims are deemed unfit to touch the Quran. That much is generally known. What is not usually considered is the reason: According to the Islamic law, we are unclean.
The term is "najis." On the multilingual Web site of the Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, the leading Iraqi Shi'ite cleric, there is a catalogue of Islamic laws. This includes a list of "najis things." There are 10, beginning with an assortment of excretions and body fluids--obvious stuff that really shouldn't need special mention. On the "najis" list with urine, feces, etc., are the pig, the dog and the "kafir." That means the Christian, the Jew, the unbeliever in Islam--and, chances are, the Gitmo guard.
In effect, then, with its official policy of clean cloves and detainee towels, the United States military is promoting, enabling and accepting the Islamic concept of najis--the unclean infidel--a barbarous notion that has helped fuel the bloodlust of jihad and the non-Muslim subjugation of dhimmitude. Our soldiers are many things: self-sacrificing, bold, loyal and true. They are not unclean.
Is this political correctness run amok? Not exactly. It's something else again, a new threat from within that needs vigilant redress. P.C. is about victimology, the elevation of perceived victim groups to the canonical pantheon. The Gitmo rules are more blatantly about surrender, a voluntary self-extinguishment, a spreading condition of denial of what is right and worth standing for. Not what you expect from the United States Southern Command.
