A statue to a witch on public property?
Where's the ACLU when you need them!

Shows how far we've come in overcoming certain superstitions. Salem used to hang witches; now the city puts up a statue of the actress who played one on a TV sitcom.

I'm not sure it's fair to say it's a statue to a witchcraft. I'd call it an homage to television. However it's true that TV idolatry is a major U.S. religion.

Have the spelling rules changed since I was a kid (oh so many decades ago...)? Back then, a woman with fair hair was a blonde, while a man with similar hair color was a blond. (Note the dropped "e".)

I'm so confused these days over proper language usage. A manager replaced "sex" with "gender" in one of my papers. When I questioned him on this (since we used "gender" to describe nouns and verbs when I was a kid), he explained that "gender" is more correct than "sex". I responded by loudly proclaiming to the rest of the office that I was going home for some lunchtime gender.

;-)

How clever that they're making a movie out of a cheesey old TV show. Our greatest minds are truly in Hollywood.

"Gender" is today considered the most accurate term for whether one is male or female. By English grammatical standards, he was right - although feminist pressure no doubt helped shape those standards, and drove the commonly used "sex" out of general usage back in the 70's.

Oh, and I still use "blonde" for women and "blond" for men, too. I don't care what the grammarians say about that. ;)

Just some tidbits from some Elizabeth Montgomery biography sites...

In 1993 Liz narrated the Academy Award winning documentary Panama Deception, uncovering the Iran Contra affair. On a lighter note she also narrated 2 audio installments of The Erotic Adventures of Sleeping Beauty, proving to us that she was not that sweet as pie housewife she used to portray. Elizabeth Montgomery was not only a versatile television actress but also an AIDS and Gay Rights activist. Back on June 28th 1992 Dick Sargent had his Samantha right there by his side, as grand marshals of the Gay-pride Parade in Los Angeles, California. Her Bewitched costar had her complete support when he choose to "come out" publicly.

For what it's worth...

I never got into Bewitched for what that is worth
