Two Convents Attacked In Bihar
BETTIAH (ICNS) -- Unidentified assailants have attacked two convents in Bihar seriously injuring nuns in apparent robbery attempts.
An elderly nun was hospitalized with serious head injuries after a gang of 15 men attacked the Notre Dame convent at Raxual in Bihar on the midnight of June 9. The convent comes under the diocese of Bettiah.
In another incident, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth convent at Sokho in Bhagalpur diocese was attacked a week ago. More details of the attack on this rural convent were not available.
Notre Dame Sister Manjula in her late 60s was with two other nuns and their maid when the miscreants entered the convent breaking open the gate and doors.
They asked for money. But they have not taken materials such as television and tape recorder when they left, Father Henry Fernando of Bettiah diocese told The Indian Catholic.
He said the robbers beat up the elderly nun severely that her rib was broken. Bishop Victor Henry Thakur of Bettiah has visited the convent and the injured nun in the hospital, the priest said.
One more sister sustained minor injuries but the maid and another sister escaped unhurt, probably they hid themselves somewhere, the priest said.
The priest said diocesan officials have filed a complaint in the local the police station and investigation is on. Only after proper investigation we could ascertain the motive of the attack, he said.
The attack on the convents is latest in a series of assaults on priests and nuns working in Bihar.
In April, a criminal stabbed Fr. Mathew Uzhuthal, vicar general of Patna archdiocese.
The 70-year-old priest died of stab wounds May 1.
The priest's death had spread gloom all over Bihar where the priest was quite popular.
Seems like all they can do is pick on little old ladies. I know it is Bihar, but I still think it is inexcusable.
Ah.. do you notice the obvious psyops?
"attacked"
It was a robbery/burglary.. and that state is Bihar. Several houses must have been "attacked" that week as well.
According to the article, they didn't steal anything. I am guessing assault is their biggest reason for breaking and entering. Bihar is truly the armpit of India.
