"Sirens blared in Bandon along the Oregon coast shortly after 8:00, telling residents to evacuate"
Never heard it here but knew about from Free Republic
I always have my marine radio on and heard the reports from the Coast Guard Helo
I'm 4 miles south of Bandon and the ocean is due west about 2 miles
Here's a link to see the area. I'm where the red x is.

I am so used to the mild manner of the dispatchers for Lin Com up here in Newport/Lincoln County that when the one male who has a very pleasant voice reported the warning I did the evac.
His voice change is what alerted me to listen.
Marine Science Center and the dorms did an evac. So now knowing that I don't feel silly as my neighbors laughed that I was doing the drill.
Also a couple of weather bouys have been out of order according to past newspaper reports and I have not seen any notice that they are back in working order.
They should have used the tsunami sirens even if it was a dry drill just for practice.
