There was a seismologist on Kcal that said a quake along a strike/slip fault (San Andreas) would not be likely to produce a tsunami as would a thrust fault. From the diagram you posted, I am not certain that it didn't occur in the subduction zone of the Juan de Fuca (thrust). The seismologist didn't specify which system produced the quake.
The response in the geothermal zone of Santa Maria (San Andreas?) doesn't guarantee that it is a San Andreas event because I think the geothermal zone will pop off regardless of the point of generation, especially in such close proximity.
