Illegal U.S. immigrants outnumber legals

Washington, DC, Jun. 14 (UPI) -- The number of illegal migrants arriving in the United States has exceeded the number of new legal immigrants, a Pew Hispanic Center report finds. In recent years some 700,000 unauthorized migrants have arrived annually, compared with about 610,000 legal immigrants. "Unauthorized Migrants: Numbers and Characteristics" was prepared by Jeffrey Passel, a veteran demographer and senior research associate at the center. The report estimates the number of people living in families in which the head of the household or the spouse is an illegal alien at 13.9 million as of March 2004, including 4.7 million children. The report also said at least 6.3 million unauthorized workers were employed as of March 2004, comprising 4.3 percent of the civilian labor force. Overall, illegal migrants are less educated than other sectors of the population, with 49 percent not having completed high school, compared with 9 percent of the native-born and 25 percent of legal immigrants.

What are you talking about? What's so expensive about a silly wall. Don't listen to the spin. In some places it can be bob wire. Other places chain link. Other tall corrugated metal like the Israelis are using. Don't kid yourself, we can build a wall, and if we wanted to we could pay illegals $6.25/hour to do it for us, which I happen to think is a good idea.

The main thing is to back it up with force. Not the threat of, but actual force, then the faucet will close. THEN the threat will start to be effective, but not until the peasants are shown who is boss.

High tall would the wall have to be to fend off a terrorist attack with nuclear or biological weapons along our border?

My point is that the wall can stop the illegal migration, but cannot secure our major border cities from a terrorist attack with weapons of mass destruction. We need to think well into the future. A failure to do so invites something worse than 9-11.

You can't address every threat with one solution dude. You sound like one of the libs. If a wall won't fix every problem, lets don't do anything at all. Let's TALK for a few more years. Let's REACH OUT to the mexicans. Let's PAY THEM not to come, Let's be SENSITIVE. After all, WE ARE THE WORLD.

Listen, pal, the world doesn't work that way. The REAL world walks over the corpses of candy-assed effeminated fops of countries that actually believe that PC crap. The REAL world is a MANS world, and the biggest, toughest, meanest man in the neighborhood is the one that survives.

Anybody that tells you anything different wants to steal your wife, or your child, or your livlihood, or your life.

Keep up the good work. We need to get the word out. Too bad not enough people took the little guy with the big ears seriously.

I've seen the China-Latin America link before. Of course, the "threat" of China can be used as a justification for what they were going to do anyway, starting back in the Carter years with the Trilateral Commission, then NAFTA, then GATT, now CAFTA.

And why do we do so much trade with China and have a huge deficit with them? That's one to think about.... It certainly hasn't made them an ally.

BTW, India is set to surpass China in population, I think, 2010 or 2012.

My theory is that political enmity is just a smokescreen for furthering the money and power interests of the elite.

Unfortunately, you're almost undoubtedly correct.

He said that he thinks that the governments of US, Canada, and Mexico have talked secretly about eventually making our three countries ONE huge "union", similar to Europe

There's no secret about it. It is the goal of many:

Experts call for Common North American Border.

Or how about this little tidbit from none other Than Henry Hyde.

But regardless of how warm or hostile the relations between our governments, no border can prevent the growing connections between our two countries. The emergence of a North American Community is already well-advanced and is inexorably entangling our fates. The choice we have is to cooperate to realize the many possibilities being created by this nascent Community or to reprise the needless mistakes of the past.

The Emergence of the North American Community

Henry Hyde is a Republican, right?

Oh, my goodness...

He is talking like the US becoming Mexicanized is a GOOD, WONDERFUL THING!!!!

So, according to Hyde, losing our Americaness, to become "one" with Mexico is a "dream future"?

God Help Us....

Thanks for the information raybbr, I think

Why should we even have borders

Our army is on the other side of the world, they cant be in two places at once. Either you want them in Iraq, or you want them to protect our Mexican border.

"You sound like one of the libs"

Call me what you wish, but I believe with all the problems Mexico poses to our security, we should take it, by force if necessary and make it what it should be.  If that means sending in 50,000 to 100,000 US Marshals to establish law and order after the military has neutralized their military and police forces, so be it.  And if it takes half a century to accomplish like it did our "Old West", it will be worth the time.  For a century and a half we danced the soft shoe where Mexico is concerned.  It's time to kick some butt.  We took a third or half of Mexico in the eighteen hundreds, and made great societies throughout those regions.  It's time to take the rest, crush the corruption forever, and allow the good people in those areas to build the type of communities we enjoy.

I can't apologize for sounding like one of the libs if that's what your take is.

Well, now why didn't you say so in the first place! Gotta respect an opinion like that. I don't totally agree, but I respect it. They have an awful lot of people down there, and you think we have problems now, try having the whole country as a welfare client state. In fact I think they'd like to be a welfare client state of the US -- with the right to kvetch and quibble and undermine like the socialist rats of course.

So I disagree, but I have to respect a man with an action plan.

Thank you for noting that California is one of the "great societies." It helps to balance out the common Cali-bashing around here. We're not as great as we once were, but we're hanging in there. O, for the days when Chicanos crossed over to vote for Reagan. They respect a no-nonsense leader and many have a proud history of service in the U.S. military.

I don't think your plan will happen, but I like it and your profile page.
