Illegals as trespassers
The Washington Times ^ | June 13, 2005 | Washington Times Editorial

For novel ideas to plug the cracks in the federal government's flawed immigration policy, here's a creative one: Charge illegal aliens with trespassing under state or local law. Police in two New Hampshire towns have started doing it, and officers around the country may well follow suit.

Activists are crying foul and the Mexican consulate is displeased, but the rest of us should be glad to see local law-enforcement officers picking up the slack for President Bush and the United States Congress, both of whom refuse to deal with the country's illegal-alien problem.

It all started in April when a police officer in New Ipswich, N.H., approached Jorge Mora Ramirez, a Mexican national, as Mr. Ramirez was having car trouble. In questioning, Mr. Ramirez admitted he was an illegal alien. Per protocol, New Ipswich police alerted federal authorities to the presence of an illegal. The Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused to take Mr. Ramirez into custody. So Chief of Police W. Garrett Chamberlain did something out of the ordinary: He charged the illegal alien with trespassing...

There job is to enforce all the laws and that includes border jumpers and wet backs (illegals), OTM's and terrorists.

If the FEDERAL government won't do it's job, then IT is the entity that should be erased. These fifty states do not exist to support the snake head that the federal govt has become. I'm becoming more and more convinced that abolition is the the only way to resolve the nightmare this country has gotten itself into.

1-866-DHS-2ICE

Now, unless your criminal alien is involved in terrorism, smuggling or violent crimes; ICE does not have the manpower to commit to your criminal alien.

ICE has bigger fish to fry.

Can I help them out by frying the smaller fish?

Illegal entry into the United States of America is a Felony, at least if you or I do it. Unfortunately trespass is a misdemeanor.

Just frying the fish American Border Agents won't fry.

Yes, everyone knows that. You've got 10's of millions of illegal aliens and only a few thousand ICE Agents.

Resources are precious and can't be wasted. It's a simple concept.

the Mexican government in complaining seems to be supporting the violation of federal, state and Local law enforcement

That's pretty much business as usual for them.

Misdemeanor sounds fine to me. Just arrest them and make them try to make bail. The other charge they could use...no drivers' license and no car insurance.

I'm starting to see the latter a little in my hometown--several recent arrests for lack of license and insurance.. It forces the local "godfather" who brought the illegals here in the first place to fork over some cash to make bail. When his little pet vamooses, he's stuck with the loss.

ICE has bigger fish to fry. Their focus is on smugglers and violent criminal aliens.

Just wondering,... where do they think the mid-level bosses, mules, lookouts, and mules for the druggies come from? Where do they think the violent ones come from? Just asking.

That was one thing I wondered about in the article. It seemed to assume that the illegal was going to show up next month for the trial. I doubt he will.

Mexico makes up the vast majority of our illegal alien problem.

Then he's out the bail money. Wonder who paid it? Arrests for trespassing may make Ipswich a "don't go there" for illegals--which is also a good thing for Ipswich.

I wish I could understand his motivations.

Bush is his father's son. Pops is a great believer in the New World Order (no borders)-- so is the son, he's just a little smarter and doesn't proclaim it.
