For novel ideas to plug the cracks in the federal government's flawed immigration policy, here's a creative one: Charge illegal aliens with trespassing under state or local law. Police in two New Hampshire towns have started doing it, and officers around the country may well follow suit.
Activists are crying foul and the Mexican consulate is displeased, but the rest of us should be glad to see local law-enforcement officers picking up the slack for President Bush and the United States Congress, both of whom refuse to deal with the country's illegal-alien problem.
It all started in April when a police officer in New Ipswich, N.H., approached Jorge Mora Ramirez, a Mexican national, as Mr. Ramirez was having car trouble. In questioning, Mr. Ramirez admitted he was an illegal alien. Per protocol, New Ipswich police alerted federal authorities to the presence of an illegal. The Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused to take Mr. Ramirez into custody. So Chief of Police W. Garrett Chamberlain did something out of the ordinary: He charged the illegal alien with trespassing...

Good idea. If Jorge W. doesn't want to handle it, its time for Americans to step up to the plate. Illegal aliens are uninvited trespassers in our country.

U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"
Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.
It won't happen. Our president is dedicated to the "North American Union."
He has decided, with the Presidentes of Mexico and Canada, to erase our border.

Mr. Chamberlain called Immigration and Customs Enforcement to report the illegals, but per usual, ICE declined to get involved.
Wish I knew why ICE is refusing to get involved in these cases. It they should be and aren't, I wonder if we could file some sort of class action suit against ICE for failure to perform or some-such.
At any rate, bully for the LEOs. A shame they have to do what our President and Congress won't. Pathetic!

If you ask them, I think they typically respond that they concentrate on those illegals who are committing crimes - aside from the crime of illegal entry, of course.
I think the chief in New Ipswich got the idea of using the trespassing laws after someone in the department stopped a van with 9 illegals in it. ICE wasn't interested in them, so they started looking into a way of taking care of it themselves.

I think they're only picking up illegals that are on one of their lists, or have committed a serious crime. With all the document fraud, I don't see how they can possibly know who is who.
We, the people, will have to do the cleaning up.

I wish I could understand his motivations. I can only assume that he fears an hispanic backlash from enforcing laws regarding illegals (if this is the case, it's really sad). I think this is a gross miscalculation, of course, but for some reason he seems to be blind to the growing frustration on this topic.

That's for sure. I think it's pretty inspiring to see these local LEO trying to take a stand.

It's a miscalculation of historical proportions. It will lead in a generation to a new civil war, Kosovo X 100.

This is an excellent idea, every police agency in the country needs to follow it.

ICE declined to get involved. ICE has bigger fish to fry. Their focus is on smugglers and violent criminal aliens.

Why in the world would the Mexican consulate be anything but supportive of the local law enforcement.
Illegals are breaking the law and the Mexican government in complaining seems to be supporting the violation of federal, state and Local law enforcement.
I'm sick of the Mexican government pushing their welfare wannabes off on the USA.

Citizen arrests apply to felonies. As illegal entry and trespass, I believe, are misdemeanors, the four southern border states (others too) would be well served by a felony statute.
Not only would citizen arrests be an added tool but we could enjoy the maddening screams from the left.
