You'd think that from 41,000 feet they could glide it to anywhere. My dad flew glider planes. He always felt they were safer (less mechanics to go wrong)...and they have a great glide ratio

That's what I was wondering. 41K is in Class A - IFR-only - airspace. I'm not IFR-rated myself, but I wonder how ATC handled this.

8 miles high and glided almost 100 miles, what's that about 12 to 1? That seems like a very good ratio to me, to bad nothing was closer then 102 miles out.
