Good Monday morning, fellow political junkies. Trust everyone had a good weekend. The Senate convenes at 2:PM this afternoon, still in Executive session, to consider the nomination of Tom Griffith to the DC circuit. Four hours of debate are schedued, and I believe Frist will ask for a vote at 6P unless the Dems object. Reid said that Leahy has some reservations about the nominee...Oh, Joy..(/sarcasm) What I'd like to do in today's thread, is discuss your thoughts about the last few weeks in the Senate, and what you think the future might hold.
Always count your blessings.
Stupid question, but I'll throw it out anyway: Don't we already have "anti-lynching" laws, namely laws against MURDER? I'm sorry but I think this is nuts-- however, how does one vote against it and keep one's office? Typical waste of congress' time, IMO. Let's enforce the murder laws we have.
My daughter just went to work for a dental office---
I told her that I can't see how she can work there, and listen to that drill sound all day!!!
I am one of the people that are SO terrified of dentists that they have to give me gas just to do an exam!!! LOL
I'd take the dentist. I like my dentist and hygenist.
Interesting...
Morning Fudd, it's a good harmless issue, that is a feel good thing for Southern pols! Maybe Sheets will show up to protest it could be fun!
Could it be becuase they want to get the energy bill and Bolton through first?
Did Sheets vote against it way back when?
The most notorious use of the filibuster was in the 1930s and 1940s, when white Southerners regularly kept black citizens in line by lynching them. Efforts by Northern senators of both parties to pass federal anti-lynching laws were frustrated by Southern senators' filibusters. They simply talked the legislation to death.
Dems' filibustering of judicial nominations is just politics

I don't know - maybe a procedural move. Hopefully Bench Memos will have more on this today...
I don't know for sure but I can imagine that he did! While we are discussing Donks, did you hear Rush say that Mark Warner and Evan Bayh have raised as much money as Hildebeast but it is not being reported? Interesting!
I think Frist has it all in order in his head, it's all strategery, and with the ML being a surgeon, it sure reminds me that this session has been very surgical by design!
OK, here are 8 from Today's Toons 6/13/05...
Latest exchange between VP Cheney and Howeird Dean
Cheney, in an interview to be broadcast today on Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes,'' said Dean "was not the kind of individual you want to have representing your political party.''
On a roll, Cheney said, "I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does.''
Dean was asked to react to the punch from the vice president.
"My view is that Fox News is a propaganda outlet for the Republican Party and I don't comment on Fox News.''
That's the only aspect of it that I can understand, even though I still think it's unnecessary.
Sheets didn't need to have voted against it, heck he probably DID it.
Well they do have to come up with stuff for re-election I suppose. No sillier than every sports team that wins any championship makes an appearance at the White House! President Bush should invite the Freepers to the White House, at least we actually vote!
Ever since I have had on C-span 1 & 2 today, they have changed the times for the Senate lynching Apology, about 4 times...I just noticed that they have changed the time on c-pan 2, to 6:30 PM ET, now...
I say the House gaveled to order, went to another room, came back about 5 minutes later, and there was a recorded progam on...does anyone know why the House didn't stay on?
