COLORA - Marcia Thompson Eldreth sees in the United States a Christian nation, inspired by Scripture and dedicated to propositions conveyed in biblical prophesy. She asks: Why not a U.S. national Christian flag?
"Our nation was based on Judeo-Christian principles," Eldreth said. "Blessed is the country whose God is Lord."
She was sitting in her Cecil County kitchen here the other day, sharing the story of how she came to design and arrange for manufacturing and selling a national Christian flag that since last year has gained national attention on The 700 Club, a religious news magazine television show hosted by, among others, the Rev. Pat Robertson. The taped segment is scheduled to appear on the program for a second time Tuesday, Flag Day.
Eldreth figures this year's show will again inspire a rush of orders for the flag, which shows an American bald eagle in flight, holding in its beak a quote from the New Testament, in its talons a bloody crucifix.
The flag idea "first came to my ears from the pulpit," said Eldreth, referring to Pleasant View Baptist Church in Port Deposit, where she is one of 950 active members, and where one morning in spring 2003, the Rev. Harold M. Phillips encouraged his congregation to declare proudly its Christian devotion, to perhaps even wave a flag.
A flag. A Christian flag. The notion struck Eldreth, not least because she has done quite a bit of painting and drawing over the years. She said she thought to herself: "Well, that's got your name on it, Marcia."

That sounds gross. What's wrong with the old Protestant Union flag that churches have used for years?
Worst idea of the week, so far.
Oh well, it's only Monday!
So9
The whole idea sounds like an unwise effort calculated to push the "theocracy" conspiracy theorists further to the left.
Welcome to FR. Yes, that cross is an offense to many.....
I'm guessing this will spread like wildfire in the MSM - especially tomorrow (Flag Day). They love to find the strangest offshoot, and spread it like it's gonna go mainstream unless the masses put a stop to it!
Yeah, those damned snakes make me nervous too. I always sit at the back of the church to hopefully be out of range of the snakes.
Like it or not, nobody speaks for the Christians. I know a lot of people presume to try, but I ain't buying it. This idea of a Christian flag is just a stupid, divisive idea.

The majority of all Christians are Catholic.
Bad idea.. I like the flag we have right now..
Well, that's a point - I'm Catholic, too. But the flag itself is tastefully neutral.
We have a flag and it's the one I want draped on my coffin and presented to my wife and children when I make my last journey. Thanks but no thanks.
Our church is getting into a breeding program. We prefer homegrown snakes. We want them to have 3 eyes....just like the congregates.....
Catholics are the largest Christian group in the USA.
\ My family flag.
My family fought and died under this flag. It is the flag of the Missouri State Guard. They fought against Lincoln and his Federal troops who forced Missouri to join the civil war even though they claimed a legal, Constitutional right to remain neutral. This flag flew at Wilsons Creek, Pea Ridge, Corinth, Vicksburg and many, many more battles.
For them it was never about slavery, especially since my ancestors were Baptists. Baptists had been fighting to end slavery since the mid 17th century. Baptists were responsible for the Bill of Rights and especially the 1st Amendment right to freedm of religion and freedom of speech. (Baptists had been persecuted over these issues in the colonies)
