The American Academy of Pediatrics is warning of the worst outbreak of whooping cough in 40 years, while those concerned about border control see it as more evidence that vanquished diseases are spreading due to widespread illegal immigration.
Whooping Cough, or pertussis, is particularly dangerous for children and can be fatal in infants, warns the doctors group.

Not sure how credible this is since it's WorldNetDaily, but thought I'd put it out here anyways. Take everything from that website with a pound of salt.

Pertusis is back, but I'm not sure the illegals are to blame, part of the problem is that when the vaccine wears off people become susceptible. It is only a truly dangerous illness in babies. My teenager had it last year, the cough lasted forever because by the time it was diagnosed the antibiotics only worked to stop the spread, not the symptoms.

Posted already. The article on the whopping cough comeback is on the American Academy of Pediatrics website, though I'm sure others have made the credible tie-in to illegals.

Well, I for one, believe that illegals have escalated this problem. I see it everyday here in CO. Floods of Mexicans coming here and I would bet my left boob that many if not most, are illegal.
Of course, here in Boulder County, the anti-immunization Lib freaks are also to blame.

this is Bush's perfect excuse to:
a. seal off the border and
b. kick out the illegals.

Also, resistent TB and even LEPROSY have risen by horrendous percentages.
Kick 'em out.

a. seal off the border and
b. kick out the illegals.
He didn't do it then and he isn't going to do it now.

As is TB. Just another reason to demand they control our boarders. Next thing we will have Polio back.

We should control illegal immigration, but it won't fix the resistant TB problem. It might help with leprosy, which is a disease treatable with antibiotics.
If you're worried about infectious diseases follow the avian flu, it will make your blood run cold.

The particular "bait and switch" that WND pulls here is to make the reader think that it is the American Academy of Pediatrics that is making the link between whooping cough and illegals. The only person they cite making the link is Madeleine Pelner Cosman, who is not part of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is not even a doctor.

We can close the border to Canadian Beef because of a couple of sick cows but we turn a blind eye to the Mexican Mafia and their Meth drug cartel and no telling what epidemic they may bring...

I'm afraid it's going to take civil disobedience to change things in this country or an all out civil war before our lawmakers take this seriously.

Somehow this weekend the MSM decided to visit this problem
with a bit o coverage. The numbers of drug resistant TB cases and other thought extinct infections rising faster than anyone cares to consider. Dengue fever is making a huge comeback this year, all across the country, and many illegals are dying on our dime.
All will be forgotten by this Friday, and it will be business as usual.
Except for those infected, of the course. Too bad for them.

That was the six weeks we covered the multiplication tables. As a result, I didn't inhale this rote learning very deeply, and I have always wished I hadn't missed that part of school.
I had whooping cough many years before a vaccine was available. And I was very thankful for the vaccine when my wife and I had three daughters. One of our daughters was born before Salk came up with a polio vaccine, and we dreaded every summer just praying that she didn't get polio. And I blessed Jonas Salk's heart for finally giving some relief from that dread disease.

I remember the time a FReeper was "visited" by the Secret Service for a remark he made in this forum.
