Inside Report: Bush On Immigration
Real Clear Politics ^ | June 12, 2005 | Robert Novak

Posted on 06/12/2005 10:09:09 AM PDT by Saigon68

President Bush's statement Wednesday to Republican congressional leaders acknowledging that he should do a better job handling immigration followed a report to him by aides that the conservative base is deeply concerned about that issue.

Is the Adminstration finally "getting it?" Not if they are supporting the new "amnesty-on-the-installment plan" offered by McCain. Stay tuned.

They're just trying to assuage the masses. Don't believe it.

If I've got one complaint about President Bush, it is about immigration. Tom Delay said the other day that the President has come around on the issue. "He admitted he hasn't done a very good job in being clear to the American people where he's coming from, and he's going to try to do better," said DeLay. I see this as a very good sign.

"acknowledging that he should do a better job handling immigration"

Quit "acknowledging" and start doing.

And thinly veiled attempts at amnesty don't qualify.

Participation by Republican Sen. Mike DeWine of Ohio in negotiations that achieved at least a temporary solution of the judicial confirmation problem may help sink his son, County Commissioner Pat DeWine, in a Republican primary Tuesday in Cincinnati.

That would be sweet- and send a message to the other Rinos.

It's going to take actions for me to believe it, not words.

What's going on with President Bush. Just now coming around? For crap sake, this problem has been festering for at least 20 years. What could be more important than the problems illegals have been causing than SS. SS can be fixed without so much crap, but the ignoring of illegals will destroy our way of life and can never be reversed.

I see this as a very good sign.

From your keypad to God's ear. There was a great line in Mr. Roberts where Ensign Pulver tells Roberts, "I'm looking for marbles all day LONG!" Well, I'm looking for silver linings to the immigration problem all day long, and I can tell you right now that the Administration is going to push for the McCain Kennedy (two peas on a pod) Immigration Bill. It is a disaster and it is simply a rewrite of the Bush/Rove Amnesty Plan.

I live in Southern California where the economy, schools, hospitals, and social services are paralyzed by illegal immigration. I hope your optimism is well founded. But once burned twice shy as the old chestnut goes.

Isn't DeWine the new chairman of the RINO caucus? As for Pat, I wish those good folks there would turn on him en masse. What a message that would send. We tried it here in Southern California with David Dreier. He got back in but had the scare of his life.

deeply concerned

With the "late" Tom Daschel, it was always "I'm troubled..."

(pssssst- he doesn't need us conservatives anymore. Just like the previous 4 elections, we were made to vote for an unpalatable GOP candidate because the other candidate was even mroe unpalatable. Use us, then abuse us: It's the GOP way.)

His position has been made quite clear. Living in AZ., I see the results of his position every day. Now it's time to do something about it despite his position on it.

Is the Administration finally "getting it?"

Not until they sponsor legislation that amends or repeals the 1965 Immigration Act. The true source of most of our border, immigration and terrorist problems.

Too little too late and it's all bullsh*t anyway. I won't vote for this man's legacy, no matter who it is. I want him impeached and made Vice President of Mexico, because that's basically all he is.

Why is he calling the Minutemen vigilantes and at the same time NOT demanding a public apology from Vicente Fox for what he said about black Americans? Especially the ones who pay taxes for Mexico's citizens to get free health care, free education, free lawyers, mortgages, cars, etc. etc. etc.

Impeach El Presidente Jorge dueble-ve.

Tancredo '08.

What a message that would send.

Saigon,

You're right on. I've been posting that for a while- beating Pat Dewine would be the quickest, most effective message to the collaborators that, although fellow GOP senators might put up with nonsense, the "base voter" doesn't.

"He admitted he hasn't done a very good job in being clear to the American people where he's coming from, and he's going to try to do better," said DeLay.

So he is not ignoring the issue. We just can't be informed yet as to what is going on.

Only the continued pressure by good, concerned folks like y'all that email, phone, write and fax their reps. in D.C. will push this issue to the front burner. Until they realize that not doing something about illegal immigration will hurt them at the polls, nothing will happen.
