The Arabs did get better right up to the Mongol conquest. Then they got worse.

They've recently been getting better.

But the point that you can gain an understanding of the European Middle Ages by watching the Arabs is absolutely correct.

You can also gain an understanding of your own relatives who belong to apostolic cults.
