Sounds to me like a seriously confused mish-mash of information. The article apparently attempts to link, in a feeble way, every homicide in El Salvador from Contra-era death squads to current criminal killings and sub-culture murder of gays in a hyper macho society.
With leftists casting about for something to harangue over, this article furnishes context for the predictable rebirth of candle light vigils against Central American repression. I suppose we're supposed to believe that America is being overrun by victims of horrible oppression. A couple dozen killings in El Salvador and it directly results in 50,000 illegals crossing our borders every week. I guess it's that damn Bush and the banana cartels at it again.
The article does relay some telling information:
"All of those killed were members of maras, youth gangs, and the modus operandi was very similar to the spate of "social cleansing" executions carried out by the Sombra Negra, Black Shadow, organization in 1994-1995."
"[One of the former death squads] justified its actions by claiming that "the laws of the country are not working" and that "the PNC does not have sufficient resources to combat crime."
Sounds to me as though a very justified vigilante movement is needed. Like American vigilantes (in the main) they were absolutely necessary and a noble part of our history of self-detirmination. Without legitimate governance, criminals will seek to control. Armed freemen can, and will, reassert their freedom. Unfortunately, the corruption of many countries precludes any permanent solution to the criminal ills.
We have a thread on gangs here http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1421308/posts
about what is coming over our border.
A freeper brought up Sombra Negra. This post is an INS report on Sombra Negra.
And if you find the information a feeble Mish Mash, I hope you take comfort in the fact that this is our INS at work.
