CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq - Marines, Sailors and Soldiers assigned to Regimental Combat Team - 8, destroyed a large weapons cache and bunker system in Karmah, north of Fallujah June 5.

Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces discovered the large cache June 2, while conducting operations in the area. The site was an old rock quarry, approximately 170 meters wide by 275 meters long that contained an underground bunker.

Within the various rooms of the facility, Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces discovered four fully furnished living spaces, a kitchen with fresh food, two shower facilities and a working air conditioner.

More than 50 weapons and munitions caches were discovered in the last four days. Approximately 12 weapons cache sites have been discovered within a five mile radius of the rock quarry.

A joint Navy and Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Combat Logistics Battalion-8, 2nd Force Service Support Group helped to identify and inventory all the items found in the cache before destroying it, using roughly 300 pounds of plastic explosives. The bunker and weapons cache were destroyed simultaneously.

Large quantities of plastic explosives, mortar and artillery rounds were discovered in these cache sites. The explosives are commonly used by terrorists in the construction of roadside and car bombs.

Destruction of the cache sites and the underground complex denies their use by terrorists against Iraqi civilians, Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces.

Iraqi Security Forces and Marines continue to locate and destroy weapons caches throughout Al Anbar Province.

Here is another article about current weapon caches being found in the Al Anbar region around Fallujah and north toward Al Karma. "Approximately 12 weapons cache sites have been discovered within a five mile radius of the rock quarry."

I am sure they are going to continue to find a lot of stuff as the Iraqi folks see they must help out if they want the insurgency to stop.

If you want to find weapon caches that will be used against our troops in Iraq.

We all ready know.

They are in the major ammo dumps of the Syrian Government and the Iranian Government.

Instead of wasting time in the Iraqi desert, time to waste the Syrian bases.

Perhaps. But just remember there is an estimated 200,000 tons of ordnance still un-accounted for within Iraq. The stuff must be found and destroyed as has been an ongoing activity since weeks after OIF I started. And as you probably are aware based on CIA and other estimates, Iraq had more ordnance then Iran and Syria put together. The total estimates are upward to 700,000 tons. That is about 3/4 of what the USA is estimated to have. So any way you look at it, the stuff must be discovered and destroyed.

What I want is for the lard butt MSM to get out into the field to badger the Syrians, the Iranians, the French and the Russians about their arms trading.  I'm rather tired of cache reports.  I want to know who sold the munitions in the first place.  Even if a lot of this stuff was in place before the war, someone is replenishing it now.

But then, how could that possibly compete in importance with the Michael Jackson trial or misfortunate high school girls on holiday?

True. The thing with me is that I can't stand the fact that we are letting Syria and IRAN get away with being sanctuaries like Cambodia and LAOS.

And you are joined by literally thousands of Freepers who feel the same way. But you know in your heart GWB just can't go in and invade Syria and Iran. Syria is a useless cesspool. The peoples are terribly oppressed and forced to stay in line. But Iran has the potential if it could free it's yoke of Islamic rule and the shackles unjust rule, to actually become a fairly neutral minded country. It is filled with educated peoples who don't want any part of Islam etc.. They want democracy and want to embrace many of the western cultures ways of living etc.. It is a very very sad situation. The peoples want no parts of the bullshit the ruling Mullahs continue to pull off, but are keeped under control by the secret police. We have to remember Iran is Persian. Arabs are a minority. Many of them really like the USA. It is quite sad.
