NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (AP) - Mourners honored Friday a border police chief gunned down just hours after taking over the post, while President Vicente Fox's spokesman said the United States shares some responsibility for the problem of border violence.
'snip'
Speaking to reporters in Mexico City, presedential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said the federal government "recognizes the violence in the northern region. It can't be ignored."
This is a problem in which the United States also shares responsibility, and that can be solved only through the mutual action of both countries," aguilar said.
Aguilar conceded that there had been "a breakdown of society in some parts of the country", but that the federal government would be willing to work together with the United States to address the problem.

until el presidente fox won the election for the pan party in 2000, the pri party was the longest revolutionary party in control of a country--exceeding even the bolsheviks of the soviet union.
Those pursuits would likely be less profitable, and hence less worth shooting people over.
It's also an exscuse for the traitors to integrate with their side.
They would have to be renamed illegal alien smuggling cartels or kidnapping cartels or robery cartels, etc.
And they'd be making a lot less money for a lot more risk.
No. What we should do is float six cruise missiles into Mexico City every time they pop off with their sill crap OR anytime one of their illegals causes a problem.
Thatll keep their hands full.
Do it and deny everything. Then, with a wink and mischievous grin, tell them to keep their border secure.
Theres the solution. *WE* arent going to keep your people out - *YOU* are going to keep them in. End of story.
No use being a superpower if you cant delegate work.
silly crap
I'm sure we could make amends by relinquishing any claim to Texas and Arizona, transferring the contents of Fort Knox to Mexico, or eliminating any semblance of a border.
Or maybe all three.
As long as we pretend to be soverign and allow MILLIONS of Mexicans to enter our country illegally, there are no rules to this game.
Vicente, the first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem, not in finding others to blame. Be a man, Vinnie. Set an example for your crummy countrymen and just 'fess up.
"Hi, my name's Vicente and my country sucks".
Now, if all else fails, blame it on the French!
And without an American employer, the "hardworking" illegal alien is out of business. Guess I've solved the bulk of the illegal alien problem.
Perhaps you can fix that part having to do with the drug runners...
Not enough, a reperations program would also have to be established.
NO Patriot Act renewal until the Mexican and Canadian borders are controlled.
"And without an American employer, the "hardworking" illegal alien is out of business."
We have a demand problem. You have to cut down demand.
I propose executing employers who hire illegal aliens. If the employer is any sort of joint stock company or partnership, all stockholders and board members will be executed. If the stockholders are institutional investors, all board members and investment account holders in THOSE entities will be executed.
I can see that juries might be reluctant to convict; therefore, we must--regretfully, of course--suspend the right to a jury trial in cases involving illegal immigration.
After we execute a few hundred thousand traitors, America will become a much better place.
To Mexico: Sure, we do. We let you idiots in.
The fight isn't about anything more than the access to moving drugs across the border at Nuevous Laredo. Money, money and more money = fight to keep it. There is probably 5000 semi trailers a day that are moved either with tractors or by trains across that POE.
We probably have enough corrupt Border Patrol Agents in that one POE to supply the UN worldwide. Just the enormity of vehicles being moved everyday makes the job of inspections almost impossible. What an ideal situation for drug dealers.
If citizen groups started following some of these higher ranking agents home at the end of their shift they would more than likely find themselves in the best part of town where everyones wife drives a $50,000+ vehicle and has two maids.
"NO Patriot Act renewal until the Mexican and Canadian borders are controlled."
Define "controlled." What rate of leakage would be acceptable?
And you would forbid intelligence agencies from passing information to law enforcement just because the border isn't controlled to your satisfaction?
I guess you just want to give the terrorists every chance to succeed.
Actually they can make more money with far less risk smuggling aliens. Smuggle 10 pounds of cocaine and you go to prison for 3 years. Smuggle ten aliens and you go free.
Nonsense. They'd be scrambling to make up any loss. The corruption and greed is thorough.
