Fayetteville: Democrats open shop to court voters in area
FAYETTEVILLE The leader of the states Democrats said Thursday that hell use the partys new Northwest Arkansas headquarters in part to go after independent voters, most of whom he said dont identify with the regions "Shiite radical Republicans."
Jason Willett, chairman of the Democratic Party of Arkansas, officially opened the new, year-round office in Fayetteville, the only full-time headquarters outside of Little Rock. It was a promise he made when he ran for party chairman in February, and one he said represented more than just an effort to get votes for him in Northwest Arkansas.
"Were coming after Republicans here," Willett said. "Were not going to sit back any longer and allow them to dictate who we are."
He said polling shows that about 37 percent of Northwest Arkansas voters identify with Republicans, 32 percent with Democrats. The rest dont identify with a party, and Willett said theyre more likely to steer clear of the people he referred to as "the Ronnie Floyds of the world and the Shiites that are up in this region."
Republicans and Democrats alike have jokingly called more conservative members of the GOP "Shiites," a term given to the group years ago by Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Shiites are interested in establishing a Constitution for civil and representative Government.
Does this make the Democrats Sunni's?
hahahaha!!! what an interesting thing to say, "Were coming after Republicans here," Willett said. "Were not going to sit back any longer and allow them to dictate who we are."
when you've already shown them what you really are...
Can Democrats not come after Republicans without dragging in a Baptist preacher (Ronnie Floyd) ?????????????
Nothing but Howard Dean like banter from a worthless hack stuck in a job that has no chance of succeeding...gaining ground in Northwest Ark. Home of the most conservative, red county voters in the entire state.
This was the district of the great John Paul Hammerschmidt (who gave me an appointment to the Naval Academy of which I didn't make the cut) who, in 1976, had a young, up and coming politician named Bill Clinton as an opponent. He had nothing to worry about and didn't.
Besides, all the real rich Arkansans like the Waltons and the Tysons live there.
The slickster was JP's opponent in 1974 (a fairly close race, too).
Thanks...I was off by two years. It all blends. In 76 he won AG and then Gov in 78, fired in 80 and back in 82.
