Lodi, San Joaquin County -- After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, angry people threw eggs and shouted insults at the Pak-Indian Spices Grocery store downtown.
After the arrest here this week of two Pakistani American men and the detention of two Pakistani Muslim religious leaders, Mohammed Shoaib, 53, a shopkeeper, fears another backlash.
"People don't know who's who and what's what," said Shoaib, who immigrated here as a child, following his father, who had followed his uncle, who arrived here in the 1930s.
Many Pakistani Americans were shaken Wednesday, some convinced that the arrests were the result of a misunderstanding and that the men who were being held would eventually be cleared.
Shoaib said he and many of his customers believe that opponents of the religious leaders told federal authorities about them. The opponents, also members of the Pakistani Muslim community, want to block the detained men's plan to expand a Lodi community center and add a clinic, school and other facilities.
Some in the community see the Farooqia Islamic Center as a threat to traditional Muslim values. The center, a pink corrugated tin building that lies among rolling fields and new tract homes on the south side of Lodi, now houses only a library and offices.
Local leaders estimate the Pakistani population in this Central Valley town at 2,000 to 4,000 people. The U.S. Census counted 700 Pakistani Americans in Lodi in 2000. Many of Lodi's Pakistani Americans hail from the Attock district in Pakistan's Punjab state, five to six hours from the Afghanistan border. The town's only Islamic house of worship, the Lodi Muslim Mosque on Poplar Street, was founded in the late 1970s. . . . Many of the community's women stay home to raise families.

Fortunately none of the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets are owned by Pakistanis...

from 700 to 2,000 - 4,000 quite a jump in numbers in a few short years.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought one of the men, the young one I believe, confessed to training to kill americans. If this is true how can these people say the men were arrested by "mistake"?
The Muslim community's reaction is the root of the problem with Islam today. In the US both Christians and Jews recognize that they are Americans first - meaning they abide by it's laws and will defend the country against all enemies. Muslims continue to see their religion as a higher law than common law.
Muslim fundamentalism, just like Christian and Jewish fundamentalism, will not be tolerated in the US when it threatens others and breaks our laws.
Memo to Muslim Citizens and Resident Aliens: Do the right thing. Turn in all terrorists, ASAP. Do not hesitate. Do not delay.
For all the people that are looking at the borders for the only problems, they better look again---
Aren't these American citizens??
Yesterday, on the radio, all the terrorist sympathizers were saying that they shouldn't be arrested because they hadn't actually blown up anything, yet.

The problem is, they live with these people, they interact with them, the American Muslim community is infact
America's first defense; so far they have done very little, except complain that they are being treated unfairly, well no sh*t.
If they were smart that's exactly what they would do, or should have done after 9/11. If they broadly and proudly proclaim their allegiance to this country, they shouldn't have any problem. When they hedge and hide and point fingers, I'm afraid there's liable to be trouble.
And you're certainly helping to muddy the waters, ain'tcha Shoaib? If you don't mind, I'd rather they cool their prayer rugs in prison until we "straighten things out."
Al Qanada!
Why do they wish to live among infidels? They should leave for some jihadistan.
No, I am not exaggerating. Click the pic, go to "last," and read backwards.
If you are not informed about this stuff, you will be made sick. If you are informed, you will be made mad, all over again.

At my last reading of the Judeo-Christian Scriptures I found no mention of killing unbelievers who refuse to convert or backslide, or become apostate.
As for Israel's fights to enter Canan, they were to receive it by having hornets drive out the cananites, till the Israelite's sins forced them to have to fight to conquer the land, which had been given to them hundreds of years earlier.
As for the Cananites, they were to be conquered beecause of their extreme sins. Sins like human sacrifice, extreme sexual perversion.
