Man charged with possessing pornographic photos of toddler (His 2 year old Granddaughter!)

MANCHESTER, N.H. --The grandfather of a 2-year-old "mystery girl" was arraigned Thursday on charges of possessing pornographic photos of her.

Police say they were led to Richard Hawes, 63, of New Boston, by a clerk who found sexually explicit digital images on a self-serve photo kiosk at a Manchester CVS store. The clerk went to police who, desperate to identify her, released other photos of the girl on Tuesday. They said they had credible information the toddler was in danger and that her parents might not have known about it.

The girl's father, Jeffrey Hawes, of Winter Park, Fla., saw the photos Wednesday on national television and called police, according to an affidavit filed in Manchester District Court.

Jeffrey Hawes said his father had visited the family in Florida about four to six weeks ago. During a police interview, Richard Hawes said he had taken sexually explicit photos of his granddaughter with his digital camera, the affidavit said.

Castration will not help.

I have bathtub pics of my kids, I'm glad no one decided they were porn. How ridiculous and sad that they don't have the ability to differentiate.

Keep talking. Your kids sound wonderful and so does your husband.

I know I got nervous about taking bathtub photos of my kids because of the same reason. Sad!

Most people have digital camera's now which is a good thing for us but bad for criminals. btw, this grandfather is not only a perv but a stupid perv.

Thanks and He has more then I could ever list here. There are some things I will never know but that is ok I never had them so I can not miss them.

This poor little girl has so much of a chance to just be normal if people around her will just let her grow and not put on her shoulders the weight of being a vic.
There will be a time and place she will find out what was wrong and I promise if he took pics and made her pose she already has a "feeling" something is wrong. But sometimes we can steel someone's last bit of hope making sure they understand how wronged they were. She knows and in her time she will demand truth I hope that is all her family gives her. People are much stronger then we give ourselves credit for. Well most people :)

I will tell her. She has a younger sister that lives at home with dad. Very discouraging.

You can be forgiven only if you are truly repentant, and God knows if you're faking.
Secondly, even with contrition there is penance.
Lastly, to forgive, for instance as Pope John Paul II did his would-be assassin, does not mean forget and it does not mean that crimes go unpunished, either on earth or by God.

Castration is the answer

Sorry, you are deluding yourself if you think that castration will stop a pedophile. Even if it keeps an erection from occurring, which is NOT a given, the sickness in the head makes them do other forms of molestation. There is a lot of molestation that is not actual intercourse.

The sick facination with children does not go away with the removal of the family jewels.

You have two choices to be certain. Execution, or permanent incarceration.

Yes, some afflictions are not curable.

I know that many of us believe that. Society, in general, seems to belive that pedophiles are *never* sorry* and can *never* change their behavior.

Fortunately, experience and research shows this to be at least a questionable assumption.

While listening to a national talk show about the proposed Florida law setting the proposed penalty for child sexual abuse at 25 years to life, a psychiareitst (psychologist?) who deals with this issue called in. According to him, certain classes of offenders (e.g. men who abuse their own kids) are easier to help than others so he opposed that penalty for first offenses in all cases.

My main concern is that when we make a sweeping claim like this a part of our culture, we help insure that someone struggling with this temptation (there must be some point at which some perps are struggling) we ensure that they will not seek help. Thus, we may be helping to perpetuate this horrible crime.

Check out hte web site: http://www.stopitnow.org for an alternative approach to stoping abuse.

I could go along with either of those choices at this point. Still I thought if you removed the gonads, the hormones associated with sexual arousal were diminished. But dead is the only way to make absolutely sure it won't happen again.

This is the system here in Florida. It is frightening. I have known several people run into problems with DCF here. The good of the family is NOT their primary concern. They will destroy a family and tear a child apart emotionally, all in the name of "protecting" the "children".

In the meantime, let's see, if there are 4 children in a family, and each one and each parent gets a file, that's at least 6 files, for which DCF gets paid each day they keep the file open...

The incident took place in NH..

No it didn't. It took place in Florida. Then the creep came home to New Hampshire and got the pictures developed. Too bad New Hampshire is stuck with him. Hope he fries....

"have to trust the authorities with this one."

Just about anything can be used against you now days.

My Mom has lots of old slides of us kids. When I was two, they said that I didn't go anywhere with out my cowboy hat and twin holsters & cap guns.

Mom said that she had one of me wearing only those two items and wore out the picture over the years showing it to her friends.

I still like my guns.

Respectfully I asked, because Christ can forgive anyone, why would that not be a reason to be a Christian?

You see as a collective "we" we make this about us. Ask the child vic to pull the trigger on the ones that hurt them and you are going to get very few that want to. The nature of the abuser is such that the vic carries the burden not the perp. Do you have any idea the kind of guilt a child would feel knowing there family member no matter how heinous was killed for the action against them?

I am not against the death penalty this is not about that, this is about the nature of abuse. I am not a blood is thicker then water person, but the reality is most people feel a larger obligation to there family then to strangers or friends. A child's whole world is there family. There child comprehension does not take into account before them or after them. The sick cycle of abuse teaches them that if they can just get through whatever is happening there is a chance mom or dad or both will be happy and when they are "happy" life is good. Sadly like a family dog who had been kicked they will come when called because what they have is everything they know.

We as collective say shoot them, hang them, whatever, the child vic's think "don't hurt them, its my fault" and that along with the abuse can kill any chance of normal. Unearned guilt is about the most destructive oppressive emotion we can hold. Part of me could line them up and shoot them all, but I know what it would do to there vic's. So locking them up and throwing the key away is what we can do in the best interest of the children. Because one day they may sit across from them and say "it's all on you, I give it back" and walk away free.

I guess it's the safe or sorry approach. Its ok though we have a grandson now and in a couple of years he is gonna want to finger paint and guess what naked in the bathtub is where he will go. I can print them myself now :)

I would believe the Lord should he tell me that so and so was forgiven. But believe the pervert/murderer/criminal? Not a chance.

The transaction goes like this:

Offending party *asks for forgiveness*

Offended party does/does not give forgiveness

I think what's confused often times is that people (Christians, primarily) saying "I've forgiven them." A more accurate and Biblical statement would be that "I am not seeking vengeance on them, the Lord says that He will take care of that."

However, to make it clear - Jesus did pay for all of mankind's sin on the cross. It's up to each and every one of us to decide if we will allow that payment to apply to our sin debt, or we will pay the debt ourselves.
