S. Korea to Press Bush on North

Roh Will Urge Diplomacy and Oppose Military Approach

SEOUL, June 8 -- South Korean President Roh Moo Hyun will press President Bush in a meeting in Washington on Friday to reaffirm the United States' commitment to a diplomatic resolution of the North Korean nuclear standoff, according to South Korean officials familiar with Roh's plans. Roh intends to underscore Seoul's position that any military option is "unacceptable."

In exchange, Roh will offer assurances that South Korea will support sharper U.S. measures to get the North to return to stalled international disarmament talks if "the diplomatic path becomes clearly exhausted."

Such measures could include support for referring North Korea to the U.N. Security Council, a move that South Korea has so far privately opposed.

"If we try every diplomatic path possible and nothing works, we are prepared to support anything up to the point of a military response," said a South Korean source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "We will tell the Americans that."

The main purpose of the meeting, officials here said, is to offer a show of unity at a time when relations between South Korea and the United States have become increasingly strained.

On Jan. 15, 2001, then S. Korean President Kim Dae-jung was having a phone conversation with newly-elected American President G.W. Bush. Kim was starting to lecture on Bush about his 'Sunshine Policy.' In the middle of Kim's talk, Bush covered the receiver of his phone, and told Jack Pritchard , who was next to him, "Who does this guy think he is?"

Later, when Kim Dae-jung had a summit at White House, he gave the same lecture, and got spanked by Bush. When both came out for press conference after the meeting, Kim looked visibly shaken, and Bush was addressing him as "this man."

Now, Roh Moo-hyun is going to see Bush on June 10 in American local time. If the difference between Roh and Bush remains outstanding, Roh may receive something worse than what Kim got. The problem is that Roh is not good at anger management. Even if he does not blow up there, he will blow up when he comes back, and his anger could get the better of him. His choice of weapon against Roh has been "turn-around, back-stab, and play-innocent." Maybe, if that happens, let's hope we can put him on an indefinite sick-leave.:-)

The leftist(Roh) speaks. If he had his way he would hoist the white flag and turn the country over to their enemy to the north.

Oops! Correction:

His Roh's choice of weapon against Roh Bush has been "turn-around, back-stab, and play-innocent."

That J10 meeting is going to be fun to watch----Maybe Rohmoo just wants a ride in one of the F-117's GW just sent to SGookland. Maybe he wants to see Peeyongyang at night? Too bad we won't get to eave drop on the "negotiations."

Let S. Korea pay their own bribes. They're rich and have the most to lose.

If China and Russia were not there keeping that treat there I would agree with you to let them be on their own, but since those two are up to no good I don't care how good ROK forces are. Allowing those two to manipulate things does not work in our favor. I also don't relish the likelihood of the PRC increasing its dominance over South East Asia either if we leave.

That area has been China's historical sphere of influence for millenia.

Thats great, Roh. Outline your strategy that military action is unacceptable, and only used as a last resort. This way the North will drag on talks, delay and delay so they can build as many nukes as possible. Then they will really have us over a barrel!! Good idea.

I hope Roh looses it and files for sick time for the next two years, or otherwise has a nervous-botox breakdown. This guy is no friend of America, the average North Koreans in the gulags, and the TRUTH about his nukely northern neighbor.
