The man accused of killing six hunters in the woods of Sawyer County last November was in court Wednesday for a motions hearing on a number of issues that have been brought to the table from both sides.
After hearing testimony for about seven hours, Sawyer County Circuit Judge Norman Yackel ruled the confession that Chai Vang allegedly made on the day after the incident can be used in the September trial.
Judge Yackel said that Vang's statements were made voluntarily and none of his rights were violated.
The judge has also decided to keep the trial in Sawyer County, but says he'll rule later on whether the jury should be picked outside county lines.
Once that jury is chosen, they will be sequestered, but to which degree is yet to be determined.

Fry the bastard
Good for him!
"Judge Yackel"
NORM!!!!!!!
Yep, most of the counties up North are very conservative.
Thanks for the ping, Ladysmith. I finally saw a blip on local news this a.m.
Sounded like the trial would be held in Sawyer County, and locals to serve on the jury. But the news clip was so short...I'm not sure.
I sure hope they don't move it.
Makes me wonder when Douglas, Ashland and Bayfield counties elect liberals to state offices.
