Howard Dean cant catch a break. The guy talks about Republicans in precisely the same way other Democrats talk about Republicans, and everybody makes him out to be a raving Sterno bum. Hillary Clintons weekend remarks differed little in substance, tone or tenor from Deans recent complaints about the GOP, but she didnt get skewered, except by right-wingers like me. She was feted as a future president.
Deans most recent controversial outburst that Republicans are a bunch of Christian white guys took place at a San Francisco forum for minority activists and journalists. In his own way, Dean reverted to an old Democratic practice: He was playing the race card. But unlike Democrats in other eras, he also acknowledged as he has in other recent conversations with black and Hispanic party regulars that black voters no longer love Democrats as they once did. The party takes them for granted, treating them more like the help than the partys most indispensable constituency. Dean noted that he intended to address the problem by visiting early and often, rather than in the weeks immediately before the next presidential plebiscite.
In subtle and unstated ways, Howard Dean has aired a dirty little secret. Democrats have a growing problem with black voters, and it stems from three sources. First comes the simple fact that government help has proved an unmitigated disaster for low-income black Americans. Eighty years ago, black children in such places as New York, Philadelphia and Detroit were more likely to grow up in two-parent homes than whites. Now, 70 percent of the nations black children are born out of wedlock, black men comprise 70 percent of the nations prison population, black graduation rates lag far behind white rates

I'm a big fan of JC Watts. Why isn't he mentioned more often in the president/vp roles. I think he'd make an excellent vp, for instance...and would be good positioning for perhaps a shot at the White House down the road.
I'm still awaiting a party that says what I want to hear. More often than not, I have to trade off some things to get others that I consider more important.
And Ken Blackwell, hopefully the next govenor of Ohio.
" Is there another white man in prison in Cali besides Scott Peterson?"
The second might be Michael Jackson.
"I've come to the conclusion that having Dean s te head of the DNC is a rat plot...they knew what he was like before he was appointed....Hillary will come in and save the party......"
Thought here is the loony left along with Hillary will energize the Moveon, NARAL, ACT UP base and from 2007 on, Hillary will move to the center knowing that she will not have to worry about out Kerrying Kerry.
As candidates go, Kerry is the only one in Hillary's way come 2008, unless the RATS decide to go to the middle in the primaries.
From your lips to G*d's ear. He'll be the first genuine Conservative governor this State has had in what, more than fifty years?
"Prediction: 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate will take around 15% of the black vote."
Let us hope you are right, since every one of those votes will be one for NOT-HILLARY!
Economic, intellectual and philosophical slavery is a detriment to any life.
Charles Manson
"Is there another white man in prison in Cali besides Scott Peterson?"
Maybe Michael Jackson will be there soon.
Damn, you beat me to it by minutes!
Good article by Tony. I like the recent news that rapper Russell Simmons praised Ken Melman's outreach and dissed the 'rats. The GOP ranks will be swelling (over time) as Blacks get wiser and wiser to the party's values/issues....

Dean is finally being forced to admit that during his six terms as governor of Vermont he had never named a black or Hispanic to his Cabinet.
"It seems as though you discovered blacks and browns during this campaign," Sharpton chided the Park Avenue Vermonter
Your short list reminded me of Phil Gramm's speech at the 2000 Texas State Republican Convention. I had to miss part of it for a conference, but got the best of it. He did a great job of pointing up with names and offices, that for all the Dems claim to be the protecter of blacks in America, Republicans actually get them appointed and elected to higher offices.
Then again, Democrats are probably protecting black Americans from the stress of holding such demanding positions as well as actually deciding for themselves which candidate to vote for. Kind of them, don't you think?
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.
I have heard it's closer to 40% in some prisons, maybe even federal.
