This is very serious. All my children and I have come down with it. Just about every child at a nearby school has it. Many children in our church have it. Lots of adults too - it seems to be spreading like the plague. Even at the store grocery shopping, I heard a lot of adults with the dry, hacking cough. This is probably a bigger epidemic than is being reported, just from what I have observed. In fact, I have yet to see any major news stories. For newborns and infants, it can be fatal. What are you all experiencing in your area?

The child is a very young infant who has not been fully immunized and/or has had exposure to someone with a chronic cough or the disease. Yet anothe reason NOT to vaccinate your children. if you can still get pertussis AFTER vaccination, what is the point of vaccinating? Pertussis vaccine is reponsible for more children's deaths from vaccine reaction than pertussis itself. Vaccines are a boon for the drug congolmerates but are the bleeding and leeches treatment of the 20th century. Check out the National Vaccine Information center http://www.909shot.com ". . . If the State can tag, track down and force citizens against their will to be injected with biologicals of unknown toxicity today, there will be no limit on what individual freedoms the State can take away in the name of the greater good tomorrow." - Barbara Loe Fisher, Co-Founder NVIC

Thanks ppaul for posting this thread!
My oldest brought home a note from the school he attends and they had two cases of whooping cough!
So far neither of my kids have come down with it,but I will keep it in mind when or if they develop symptoms of illness!
Praying for your family for full recovery!

If this is true, many children will die, murdered by the anti-immunization bigots.
For those who live, the coughing can be so intense that you literally cough your guts out (the other end).

Were yall ever vaccinated for this ? I'm not judging. I'm just wondering if the childhood vaccinations are protecting or not.

Parents in Phoenix are being warned about it, and are being urged to get their kids vaccinated. We've had our first confirmed case in Cochise County ID'd this past weekend, with another suspect case.
Coming from two generations of military dependent families, I've never understood not getting vaccinations. For us, they were free...and mandatory when we traveled to overseas duty stations.
From what I understand, vaccinations for childhood diseases are free for all if you know where to go. Or at least, they don't cost more than a 6-pack or a meal at Micky D's...

Whatever happened to the DPT vaccine -- diptheria, pertussis and tetanus? They were once given routinely, and I just had a tetanus shot because of a puncture wound I got from rusty metal and it included the pertussis part. It was $5 at my local county health clinic.

I had it as a child..I remember it very well..It was summer and all the neighbors moved to the bedrooms farthiest from my bedroom..My whoops kept them awake. My dad held me in his arms under a "tent" with a vaporizer...I had to play alone all summer...It was hard on my parents..no sleep and my dad had to go to work.
I thought DPT shots had this under control.

Really? How old are you that you didn't get the immunization, and why did you not immunize your children?
To: ppaul
The vomiting isn't like vomiting because of a stomach complaint - it is vomiting up the thick mucus. I don't know how your family is, but I didn't even have the breath to get out of bed to go to the bathroom when vomiting - just leaned over the bed.
Mine started like bronchitis - which is what the doctor was treating me for, then after two weeks of getting worse, I finally starting whooping and he knew right away what it was. Said he hadn't seen a case in over 40 years at that time.
I have to depend on everyone else getting vaccinated because I have no immune system. I had to have spleen removed due to auto accident so now I can't be vaccinated for anything.

Appreciate the post, ppaul. Is this likely to be misdiagnosed, especially in the elderly?... My mother-in-law has had a persistent cough for weeks now, and she went to a doc and was told she didn't have TB!

I can sympathize and wish you and your family well.
A few years ago, my daughter then 14, came down with whooping cough/pertussis (also known as the 100 day cough -for obvious reasons) as did several other kids from her school.
The doc prescribed antibiotics which doesn't help the one afflicted, but reduces the contagion to others. He also prescribed Prednisone for a few days, which did provide a bit of relief.
What we found that helped was the following:
>>>Vitamin C - 1000 mg timed release daily
>>>Ricola herbal cough lozenges (make sure it's the one with *Horehound* as one of the ingredients.
>>>"Throat Coat Tea" - that's the actual name of the tea and can be found at most large grocery stores. The licorice in the tea is VERY soothing. My daughter didn't care for the taste, so we mixed the throat coat tea with chamomile tea to make it more palatable.
>>>At bedtime, when she was most miserable, I'd have her inhale the steam from tea with a towel draped over her head to keep the steam concentrated to her air passage. This would give her about 4 hours of comfortable sleep before we'd have to do it again.
Since my daughter's episode, we've learned that the vitamin C is crucial to speeding up the recovery process. She recovered in about half the time as the other kids from her school.
I'd seriously look into the maximum dosage for Vitamin C were I to have to go through it again.
Good luck and best wishes!

Apparently, we need illegal immigrants to spread the diseases that Americans refuse to spread.

I had whooping cough as a child. I missed most of third grade, and my lungs are permanently damaged from the severity of the disease.
I suspect the resurrection of diseases such as whooping cough and TB have to do with the flood of illegal aliens across our borders.
