WASHINGTON - In a meeting with members of Congress, President Bush said he needs to do a better job explaining his position on immigration changes, House Majority Leader Tom Delay said Wednesday.
"He admitted he hasn't done a very good job in being clear to the American people where he's coming from, and he's going to try to do better," said Delay, who attended the White House session where the president discussed his legislative agenda.

Yes, the problem is just that we don't understand why you won't enforce the immigration laws, and in fact want to pass a bill that will make things worse. All we need is your reasoning and then we'll be fine with it.

EXACTLY. A political price will be paid in 2006. New motto: 2008 is too late.
Keep in mind the amnesty bill that may clear the way for alien / non-citizen voting. If we do not dump those that are trying to push this (in both parties), and this means you too Democrats... your voice is being replaced at the ballot box and the need to 'reach out' to the will of the legal citizen populace gets flushed. When factions of each party, let's say the NATIONAL SECURITY faction of each party, can be replaced with a block of new voters whose interests are NOT the security of this country, but what they can get from government, meaning taxpayers, this country and it's rule of law, exist no more for the people, but for the government.
When?
Hey DT, I'm on your side on this one, believe me.
Actually, my words were very reserved. My thoughts are more along the lines of what you said, and my posts in the past will show that. This is the single issue regarding GWB that frosts me the most.
My post was more in the spirit of biting my tongue and saying "If he says something, this better be good."
I'm very steamed about the border issue too. *Very* steamed.
As a matter of fact, I went on a rant to a buddy the other day. He's a conservative, too, and said "Wow, what got you so fired up about it?" I told him I had just read another post about it on FR and it got me riled up again.
Keep up the good fight. I think this statement by Bush (aka "George blinked") showes we are having an effect.
Something has GOT to be done about this asinine borderless America policy.

Is Nixon's childhood home still standing? My grandparents lived in one next door and my aunt as a toddler played with Richard.
We already know his position on illegal immigration. It's to let as many illegal aliens come into this country as he can. He has lost my support and I voted for him twice.
I don't buy it. The guy is riding a pretty good-sized wave of popularity because of it. If he's a RhINO I'll be pretty upset.
Somebody said Tancredo had softened on his stance. I did a little searching and found this on his web page:
http://www.tancredo.org/issues/issues_immigration.html#security
If you are all angry at Bush, and I haven't read a favorable thing about him on this thread yet, email Rep. Tancredo and tell him we NEED him to run in '08.
I'd like to get a bunch of NH Freepers to send him a petition style letter with as many sigs as we can get telling him we want him in office. If you live in NH and you're interested get in touch with me through my profile.
We have to use our First in the Nation status properly to stop this illegal immigration nonsense, and if Rep. Tancredo gets a letter from enough of us it might encourage him to run. Bill Richardson was just here. People are campaigning already. Let's get Tancredo up here. After all, we're the only state in the country that will charge illegals with criminal trespass. I think he'd do well.
Thanks for the story, and we all should be as riled up as you and I are. Re this Bush statement . . . I doubt Bush changed any belief of his. I bet he was just trying a "different angle of attack" to explain his position. Bush has not shown he has any interest in protecting our national sovereignty, and these open borders prove that, and the BILLION$ and BILLION$ going to care for illegal aliens proves that.
My understanding is that it was fully restored and moved onto the site of his Presidential library in Yorba Linda. I believe it's over by where he and Pat are buried, but I'm embarrassed to say I haven't had a chance to visit it yet. I will though; I hear it's quite beautiful.
all income sent back to Mexico...
Yea give me some of that!
I am feeling quite ill also.
Would you support letting any Mexican who wants to move to America do so?
Immigration.
LOL. You have no idea how capitalism works.
Perfect. Using a stupid government program to solve problems created by other government programs.
Brilliant.
