" When asked if President Bush would shut down the detention center, White House press secretary Scott McClellan responded that were always looking at all alternatives when it comes to dealing with these detainees.
They didn't say it, but AP calls it "leaving open the possibilty." I can speculate just like AP does, and say that it is possible that these detainees are going to be moved and interrogated by professionals in Egypt, who wouldn't care if they were accused of using the koran for butt wipe. In fact, I'm probably closer to what would be a likely scenerio.

A lot of FReepers never miss a chance to attack the President even if they have to use some bias media story to do it.Media bias taken as Gospel. Many here at FR think that if it's in the NYT or WaPo, it's gotta be true.

Bush blows with the wind.
I normally wouldn't agree with that statement, but if this happens, it'll make me sick and will confirm my suspicion that Bush is listening to all the wrong people.

I saw the Cavuto interview. He said nothing of the sort. I can't believe some of the responses on this thread. Ridiculous.

"We're exploring all alternatives as to how best to do the main objective, which is to protect America,"
How in the hell did the AP get the headline from this statement?
Becuase thats the story they want to write. In their minds... unless Bush said "hell no... there is no way I will ever be closing Gitmo", they would run that headline.
Its funny... reminds me of the scene in DUMB&DUMBER where Lloyd is trying to hook up with Mary Swanson and asks his chances.
She replies "not good", to which he begs "like what... one in a hundred?".
Her reply being "mmmm....more like one in a million".
After a confused/sad look (and 5sec pause) Lloyd comes back with "So you're sayin' theres a chance!!! (with a big grin on his face)

Media bias taken as Gospel. Many here at FR think that if it's in the NYT or WaPo, it's gotta be true. Yeah, some people are very gullible. They still don't realize that the media will do anything including flat out lie (Dan Rather & Newsweak) to hurt the President. Of course others on FR just hate the President and attack him over any and everything.

You're calling the president a fool because the AP put words in his mouth? I cant speak for him/her (original poster youre responding to).
Ill let Bush speak for Bush.
FACT he hasnt had a single unlawful enemy combatant executed YET.
FACT he has *RELEASED* at least *TWO* unlawful enemy combatants back to Afghanistan who had posed as dead/injured civilians, and when U.S. servicemen approached to check their condition/render aid, they rolled over suddenly and shot them in the face (first case) and neck (second case), killing them.
BOTH were captured, BOTH were taken to Guantanamo, BOTH were subsequently released to GO HOME not released to Afghan authorities or any other such punishment. RELEASED!
AP doesnt have to put words in his mouth. Hes a gutless wimp and FOOL - demonstrated by his ACTIONS, not APs words.
There, I feel better now.

I just heard Neil Cavuto paraphrase what the President said. The AP story is NOT what he said at all (it's even more shocking when you hear something directly from the source and two minutes later read an AP story that totally distorts what was said).
It seems Neil Cavuto asked him about Jimmy Carter's comments. The President reinforced all the correct things about the terrorists, why we have Gitmo, etc. Since he didn't SHOUT a direct put down of Jimmy Carter, the AP converted it to the above representation ......

Of course others on FR just hate the President and attack him over any and everything.Others just use the opportunity to rail about the only issue that raises their dander, in this case, illegal immigration.

Poppycock...
President Bush campaigned and was elected by his conservative positions, ergo his conservative base.
Since resuming his Second Term...he has:
- Blinked on the Terry Schiavo case.
- Waffled on the Gitmo matter.
- Scuttled Israel by realigning to the 1949 armistice.
- Cozied up with V. Fox and refused to tighten US Border Controls.
- Floated the "trial balloon" of amnesty for Illegal Aliens.
- Negotiated and promoted Bipartisanship with the demoncats.
These are all valid issues, which are adamantly opposed by most conservatives. But if anyone pipes up and voices concern...out come the charges of "DISLOYALTY"....
I kept quiet during the first term....but not any more.
Fool me once....

There was a lot of pressure put on the US administation over here in Singapore by the Indonesian and Malaysian governments the other day at the Shangri-la Dialogue that ended on Sunday regarding closing Gitmo.
In my opinion it would be the absolute worst thing that could be done. The Muslim world would be rejoicing and view it as a victory in the WOT.

Bush said he would consider it if it suited our purposes.
Obviously Gitmo is still needed. There have been minor problems there but they are not common by any means.
The elite media likes to criticize Gitmo, but show me anyone outside the elite media or the extreme left's professional protestors of America that thing there's a problem.
Gitmo is serving it's purpose, and doing so well. Closing it would simply require the huge expense of creating a similar detention center elsewhere for no practical reason.
This is just another example of the sad state of the Associated Press.

What Bush has done, even if it's a little in your mind, is a helluva lot more than what would have been accomplished under a Democrat White House.
Beyond that. Poke your DU talking points and go back to DU where you come from.
