They're Muslims, not the typical anti-American liberal crowd you described. They were chanting in Arabic, and a few were wearing Islamic garb. There may have been a few sympathetic liberals watching, but the desecrators themselves were Islamists.
There were Muslims in the crowds. Not on the microphone.
And, traditional Islamic faith doesn't were sneakers.
