Retired Man Was Working As A Favor
WHITLEY, Ky. -- Investigators are trying to determine what caused the tailgate of a dump truck to give way, burying a Kentucky man under hot asphalt and killing him.
The accident happened in Whitley on Monday, Louisville, Ky., television station WLKY reported.
McCreary County Pastor Jimmy Tucker was killed.
Tucker recently retired from a construction company, but was working one more week as a favor, WLKY reported.
He was looking at the back of another truck that had broken down when the gate opened, causing up to 10 tons of asphalt to fall on him. Investigators said Tucker died instantly.
Another worker was taken by helicopter to a Tennessee hospital for burn treatment.
Good ol' Hank Rearden. Thanks for the chuckles.
Not necessarily true. I for one can't be eaten by a shark. My massive girth notwithstanding, I'll never be where they are. And yeah, I do mean NEVER!
Never say "NEVER!"
Get me some tartar suace!!!!
Yeah, thst had a "waiting for the second shoe to drop" quality to it.
I was driving home across east Tenn, on I-40 a few years ago, when I heard on the radio of a similar accident not far away, where the driver of an automobile was burried up to his neck in hot asphalt due to an accident. My prayer was that he die quickly. I never heard how it came out.
God was merciful in this recent case-surely he was also in the other incident.
I expect my funeral to be a laugh-riot.
On so many levels.
But Laz, will people consider your death a tragedy?
"I have to ask, what was the first lesson?"
Maybe there are worse career choices than flipping burgers?
Prayers up for comfort of this pastor's family.
You CAN be eaten by a shark!. But, I will admit that your purported girth and propensity to avoid known shark habitat makes that possibility rather remote.
He survived it, but we took several trips to the Shriners burn institute to visit him during his long reduperation.
He was called barefoot Billy from then on, even though his name was Dave.
I'm not even sure *I'll* consider my death a tragedy.
this might seem crass...but did they finish the paving w/ him in there or....
I certainly hope I don't.
Yes, that's crass, but somehow I doubt they did.
It's hard to drive on lumpy asphalt.
NEVER assume the people driving the automobiles in the travel lane next to you, see you or are aware you are there.
Lesson Three is DON NOT lean over into the travel lane, you can loose your head, literaly. Schianone Construction Co. lost a man 3 years ago on the NJ Turnpike south of Exit 16, he leaned over the barrier to look around a compressor in front of him, a truck mirror got him, clean off, die instantly, very little bleeding, mid 40's three kids, very sad.
hehe
A news report said that there were three trucks and the lead truck stopped due to mechanical problems. He stopped to help and was standing behind the truck when the tailgate gave way.
