He was hilarious. I remember seeing him when I first moved to LA and being amazed by his nerve and insanity.
He would ramble on forever. He would play (or noodle) on the saxaphone forever sorta drifting aimlessly and endlessly with no particular melody or rhythm.

My son was about 15 when he accidentally caught him on TV with some other kids. Gene was refusing to talk until 10 people each sent in a thousand bucks.
