19-Year-Old Stepped On Stomach While Girl Punched Self
LUFKIN, Texas -- A 19-year-old East Texas man faces a life prison sentence for causing his teenage girlfriend to miscarry twins, even though she wanted to end the pregnancy. Gerardo Flores was accused of causing the miscarriage by stepping on his girlfriend's stomach. He was prosecuted under the state's new fetal protection law.
Erica Basoria acknowledged asking Flores to help end her pregnancy. But the 17-year-old can't be prosecuted because of her legal right to abortion.
The defense contended that Basoria punched herself while Flores was stepping on her, making it impossible to tell who killed the twins.
The jury reached a verdict after deliberating four hours. Because prosecutors declined to seek the death penalty in the case, Flores received the automatic life sentence.

I tend to suspect that such a course of study would be beyond the grasp of one so cognitively ill-equipped as Flores. They could have gotten an abortion for free in all likelihood.
This is a travesty.
To hell with a court system that gives women unlimited rights to kill their own children, but holds all men to be evil, disposable abusers.

This is an evil and cruel verdict rendered by a legal system that has completely dissociated itself with reality.

This is the same kind of insanity that forces a father out of his house and into the street, takes his kids away, takes away his livelihood and then people in our screwed up judicial system wonder why some divorced father is so aggravated that he walks into a courtroom and kills judges and court reporters, then commits suicide by cop.

I was looking for this point to be made before I posted. There is NO WAY this sentence will stand if taken to the highest court in the nation.
While I believe he got what he deserved, if the Constitution exempts her from any legal action then I can't believe that the PENUMBRA of abortion can not extend to the father as long as the mother agrees and participates.
Whatever happens it is PROOF that "FINDING" rights in the US Constitution that are NOT THERE only lead to convoluted court decisions as this.
