Dr. Paul Cameron, President of Family Research Institute, a Colorado-based think tank, announced today that a new study on the life span of homosexuals will appear in a 2005 issue of the refereed scientific journal Psychological Reports (Volume 96: pp. 693-697).
This study provides additional evidence that the practice of homosexuality, with its attendant lifestyle, shortens the life of practitioners by about 20 years.
"Obituaries have indicated that gays seldom reach old age," Cameron said. "Indeed, gay obituaries suggest that engaging in homosexuality costs participants between 15 to 25 years of life, suggesting that homosexuality is more dangerous than smoking or being fat.
"Over 10,000 gay obituaries have been collected from homosexual publications. Are the obituaries listed in the gay press representative of gay deaths in general?" Cameron asks.
A new study that compared them with Centers for Disease Control data indicates they are.
The Washington Blade, a homosexual newspaper, has been the major homosexual paper used to track homosexual obituaries. So its obituaries for death due to AIDS were compared to AIDS deaths among males who had sex with males from the CDC for 1994 through 2000. Surprisingly, there was almost perfect correspondence. The effects of the new drug cocktails for AIDS were evident in both datasets. In 1994 the CDC put the average age of death by AIDS for homosexuals at 39, the Blade at 40. By 2000, the CDC reported the median age of death at 43 and the Blade at 42. Similar correspondences were noted for the 25th and 75th centiles of deaths.
The CDC reported that 9% of heterosexuals who died of AIDS were at least 65 years of age. But less than 4% of homosexuals and IV drug abusers who died of AIDS reached 65.
"These findings add substantial support to our previous findings," said Cameron, who headed the study. "While no one has all the facts on this issue, the CDC data is about as good as it gets. These data indicate that considerable progress in medically combating HIV is being made its even affecting deaths from other medical causes. Right now, the median age of death for gays in the obituaries is running near 60 about tied with the median age of death for lesbians. Of course, the median age of death for adults is about 80 so the 20 year hit for engaging in homosexuality that we reported 15 years ago continues to hold."
The new study "Gay obituaries closely track officially reported deaths from AIDS" can be read in the scientific journal, Psychological Reports (2005;96:693-697).
You'd get a real argument from my husband. He's a psychiatrist who has studied and treated homosexuals for over 30 years. Genetics play a part, in males for sure, altho SOME are bisexual.
Jesse Jackson, President of the Rainbow-Push Coalition, was speaking to the same audience of progressives that the author of "God's Politics" on cspan2 June 3rd. Jackson said that second-hand smoke kills 65,000 people a year AND he also said that allowing gays to marry is a civil right.
I just picked up his book: Homosexuality: A Freedom Too Far
That's a good question. I don't follow the issue of lesbianism as much as I do male homosexuality. Now you have me curious.
Jesse Jackson also called Manhattan a certain name in the 1984 primaries, he has no credibility on any issue of "civil rights"
You may be right, but there are a number of studies that support Dr. Cameron's study. He ran a similar study 15 years ago with the same results with other organizations supportied him, and now the CDC is reporting the same.
It should be common knowledge that a male anus is not designed to have a penis inserted into it!
This article summarizes it well: How Might Homosexuality Develop? Putting the Pieces Together.
The growing number of former homosexuals raises some serious issues with those pushing the genetics angle.
If the lower life expectancy is the result of AIDS, why would lesbians have a lower life expectancy as well, when they have the lowest rate of HIV infection?
BUMP
Plutarch raised a similar question and now I'm curious...

The report contests that the majority of the studies carried out which have concluded in favour of same-sex parenthood betray an egregious lack of scientific rigour. Most of the studies show a strong bias to one side.
To prove this the report analyzes the nature of the individuals who have been responsible for the various studies carried out thus far, demonstrating that the vast majority are either homosexuals themselves, or active in the gay-rights movement. Into this category fall all six of the six most prominent psychologists of the American Psychological Association, which, unsurprisingly is one of the organizations most strongly and vocally in favour of homosexual adoption.
[Emphasis mine]
No surprise here. After all, it's an "alternative lifestyle."

Not to criticize the author of the study because it is important to document things, but we have a tiny minority group, maybe .5% of the population, who way disproportionately suffer from a deadly disease and with their run down immune systems probably disproportionately suffer death from this disease. Is it really a big surprise that on average this group has a shorter life-span?
I bet NASCAR drivers on average live shorter lifespans than the general population too. But I would not be surprised if NAScAR drivers who don't die on the track live closer to the average life expectancy.
I'm not qualified to argue this subject. Husband is and he strongly disagrees with the studies you have cited. Bogus. Try researching male twins.
When he was in medical school, a facility in Great Britain claimed to have cured homosexuals. He looked into it and found that not one had been cured of homosexuality. The reason? It was a chioce of saying they were cured or prison time. They took the treatments, then went back to homosexuality.
Before it was popular to come out of the closet, homos who married were only able to fulfill their 'duties' by pretending they were having sex with a male.
The sexual urge in humans is strong., one way or the other, and rarely both ways.
Without an explanation for the lower life expectancy of lesbians, the findings would suggest to me that the study is seriously flawed. Off the top of my head, I would hypothesize that the error is due to generational differences in 'coming out' and (more specifically) having one's obituary placed in the 'gay press'..
Public acknowledgment of homosexuality is a relatively new phenomenon, so in other words the 'out' homosexuals skew younger than the actual median age of all homosexuals, and therefore the identifiable obituaries from the 'gay press' skew younger than the true median age of death as well.
That's my guess.
A lot of folks think that. Read: The Importance of Twin Studies
Sexual urge is indeed strong. Please consider reading the stories of former homosexuals I linked in post 15.
