Americans love horsesthey are our trusted companions, our Olympic heroes, and our loyal work animals. Polls show time and time again that Americans don't support slaughtering our horses for foreign dinner plates. This travesty must be stopped...and by taking action, you can ensure that it will be.
You can reach your Representative by calling the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121. Your phone call could make all the difference. Not sure what to say? Here's a sample phone script for when you call:
I love the skin.
I'm not terribly fond of horse meat (having had it in France). However, that being said, I wouldn't want to begrudge others the experience.
Feral horses are a nuisance. They over breed and over graze their range. Native species go hungry and die when feral horses take over an area. They have no natural enemies except........ man. Give it up you aren't going to find any PETA members here.
How come we can slaughter hogs, chickens, cattle, etc but we can't slaughter horses? What gives them special rights?
PETA? You mean "People Eating Tasty Animals?" Had a great chicken last night my damn self.
I think we should all be concerned about taxpayer money subsidizing this. That's all.
I really have nothing else to say on the matter.
Why? Sorry but if you allow for the slaughter of chickens or cattle or sheep, the owners of herds of horses have the same property rights other livestock owners have. The horse is simply another animal some people have chosen to romanticize.
