I'm not terribly fond of horse meat (having had it in France). However, that being said, I wouldn't want to begrudge others the experience.

Feral horses are a nuisance. They over breed and over graze their range. Native species go hungry and die when feral horses take over an area. They have no natural enemies except........ man. Give it up you aren't going to find any PETA members here.

How come we can slaughter hogs, chickens, cattle, etc but we can't slaughter horses? What gives them special rights?

PETA? You mean "People Eating Tasty Animals?" Had a great chicken last night my damn self.
I think we should all be concerned about taxpayer money subsidizing this. That's all.
I really have nothing else to say on the matter.

"I'm no vegetarian, but I don't want our wild mustangs butchered for foreign markets!"Why? Sorry but if you allow for the slaughter of chickens or cattle or sheep, the owners of herds of horses have the same property rights other livestock owners have. The horse is simply another animal some people have chosen to romanticize.

OK so you eat chickens, some people eat horses. I don't, but I also don't have a silly romantic idea that feral horses are something that needs to be protected more than other species. I am not in favor of killing them all off but I don't want it to be against the law to destroy them if they are causing a problem and they do cause problems when there are more of them than their range can support. As for them being descendants of horses left behind by the Spanish, all of them aren't. Some are escapees from early settlers and more recent farmers as well.As far as adoption of these animals go, only the very young have any hope of being useful.
