Miles OBrien to Co-Anchor CNNs American Morning with Soledad OBrien
Miles OBrien, co-anchor of CNNs Live From, will join American Morning as co-anchor with Soledad OBrien starting Monday, June 20, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. Bill Hemmer plans to leave the network to pursue other opportunities, while Jack Cafferty will join The Situation Room, a new afternoon news program, to provide commentary and insight.
Were honing the cast of American Morning in order to focus on what the audience wants most and what CNN does best: the latest news delivered with the greatest intelligence, Klein said. In a morning television landscape littered with mindless entertainment, there will be one name you can rely on for no-nonsense news: OBrien.
Miles OBrien will be based in New York and will continue to serve as the networks space correspondent. He joined in 1992 and has held a number of important anchor positions over the years earning him many journalistic distinctions. Most recently, he served as co-anchor of Live From weekday afternoons with Kyra Phillips. Phillips now becomes the lead anchor of Live From.
In February 2003, O'Brien distinguished himself as both an anchor and correspondent when he led CNN's coverage of the Columbia Space Shuttle tragedy, offering viewers exclusive information and uniquely insightful context based on his experience with NASA and space exploration. O'Brien has anchored many breaking news events, including the networks coverage of the war in Iraq.
Hemmer, who joined CNN in 1995 and American Morning in 2002, will be leaving the network. His last day is June 17.
After 10 years of distinguished service at CNN, Bill Hemmer has decided to pursue other opportunities, and we wish him well, Klein said.
American Morning broadcasts weekdays from 7-10a.m. (ET) on CNN/U.S. Kim Bondy is the vice president of morning programming of CNNs American Morning.

Haven't watched CNN in about three years, but was really impressed with Hemmer. Wish him well.
I think I speak for many of us when I say: "Who?"
This is a guy I have never heard of who was on shows I've never heard of on a network I haven't watched in over a decade.
LMFAO
I think perhaps Bill Hemmer would be one of the personalities Linda Ellerbee would describe as a twinkie. Someone good to look at on TV but not necessarily very bright.
Kilometers O'Brian was last years winner of the annual Guiness "I lie like the media constest" at Donegal's pub in Belfast!ha.
Hemmer a good guy a devout catholic wgo did an excellent job and coverage with the Death of Pope John Paul
I hear Fox News is hiring.
(Mrs. F & I saw Hemmer emerging from a Manhattan dry cleaners while we were on vacation there a few years back. "Brush with greatness.")
Me, neither! I only watch CNN when the dem's lose in elections, just to see the long face on Judy Woodenruff and the other idiots there.
I liked Bill..Too bad for CNN.
Hemmer: "I am?"
Also, a Miami-Ohio grad. Maybe he'll be joining fellow Red Hawk Bill Sammon at Fox.
Bill always struck me as a big zero. But then, since most everyone on CNN is really unbearable I guess that makes Bill a positive, relatively speaking.
Yeah, I said, "Who?" too.
When I saw his pic, I said,
"Oh, yeah, that young guy."
TVNewser has the scoop on CNNs American Morning co-host, the one and only Bill Hemmer. Hemmer, it seems, is having problems getting his New York job moved to D.C. (There are still summer internships available, no?) Reports the Newser:
Hemmer has no idea how to do anything himself, a network source tells the blog. When he does interviews, producers do everything, from writing his scripts to doing most of his interviews and footage is cut to make it look like hes working.
In other words, he has absolutely nothing to distinguish himself from every other on-air talent. KEW more
Hemmer was the one unbiased person on CNN. No wonder he got canned.
