It was a gay man who won the first Pop Idol. American Idol is a huge hit here. Just finished its fourth season. Don't know how long it will stay popular, but for now it's become something of a cultural phenomenon here in the U.S.

I did a double-take when reading this line from Scott's briefing.

ROFLMAO!!! Shows where your mind is on this fine Saturday. Last week was a hard one perhaps?!

Carrie is more beautiful. The actress who plays "Chloe" is more interesting

Well technically yes, but in Chloe's defense, she's on a show where everybody's serious and nobody smiles. When she glams up I bet she turns a few heads herself :)

But I agree, "Chloe" is more interesting :)

Are you having withdrawals from 24 as bad as I am?

YES! That show's more addictive than crack! I love it. I've been hooked since the very first episode.

Me too!!!! And I missed my very first episode in all the three and a half years not too long ago and I was so mad at myself! Ruined my perfect record!

You're right! It is very addictive! Well, to me--my hubby won't watch it. I think it's too intense for him--big sissy! LOL!

Happy Birthday !!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Just 2 more days of school but I have to go back for a month for drivers training but it'll be worth it. So around July 8th, watch out, because I'll be on the road :D

Kelly

What is the difference between a press conference and a press availability?

Primarily one of duration and subject matter. Personally, I think all this differentiation is silly, but anyway, there are three types. A press gaggle takes place anywhere other than in the formal setting of the WH media room, and is called on relatively short notice. Typically, gaggles occur on AF1 while the president is travelling.

A press availability is when some dignitary is visiting with the president. After private discussions, both will make themselves available for a few questions from the media. (Usually jointly, but not always.) Usually each leader will answer only two or three questions at these availabilties, rather than the more wide-ranging questions asked at formal press conferences.

The latter are just that: formal conferences in which the president (on occasion, jointly with an A-list leader like Tony Blair) takes a wide range of questions from the media over a relatively long period of time -- as much as 45 minutes to an hour, but rarely longer.

I thought I was the only one. AI and all those others
I have never watched. Could never get into those teeny
bopper things even when I was in that age bracket.
One of those dull folks that love classical music.

Right we just call them press conferences and the press are told before they begin the intention of them so I suppose similar to yours but we just call them the same name, though sometimes we will use the term full or formal press conference to indicate that it will last for about 30 mins or longer but we tend not to have many of that length but a lot of the shorter.

Though IMHO some of them are no more than press statements because very often they refuse to take questions or only very specific ones.

Lincoln Park in Jersey City brings back memories. I was born in East Orange, and grew up in Jersey City and Union City. I have a photo of my father and my first dog, Sam, sitting on a bench in Lincoln Park. It's on my night table next to my bed.

In 1970, I saw a young boy get hit by a car at the entrance to Lincoln Park. Someone was holding the child's head in his lap while others went for help. The child appeared to have a bad head injury. To this day, I think of him often. I don't know if he survived the accident.

Ha! 24 has a way of twisting your stomach in knot, doesn't it? You can never be sure what will happen--or who will survive. Great, great show!

I am more into pop/folk or traditional folk, I like some of the popular music but the whole thing of the pop idol does not appeal yet when I was younger I liked a show called Opportunity Knocks but that somehow seemed more gentle not so brash as what pop idol seems from the clips I have seen of it.
