PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their Crawford ranch. Undoubtedly Barney and Beezie are with them, but no new photos have turned up on Yahoo News Photos. (Sigh.) British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be visiting the President at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to be preparatory to the G8 Summit to be held in Scotland next month. They are expected to talk about aid to Africa, as well as the status of things in Afghanistan and Iraq.
THE WEEK AHEAD: From White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's press gaggle yesterday.
Monday, the President will be going to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to make remarks at the opening of the general assembly for the Organization of American States. Then when he gets back to the White House, he'll make remarks on the South Lawn for Black Music Month. There will be a White House Black Music Month reception.
Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, they'll participate in a joint press availability. That's scheduled for the East Room at this point. And then they will have dinner after the joint press availability.
Wednesday, the President meets with Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House in the Oval Office, and then he will be making remarks on strengthening Social Security later in the day.
Thursday, GWB travels to Colombus, Ohio, where he will make remarks on the Patriot Act. Congress is considering legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act right.
Friday, the President will go to McLean, Virginia, where he will tour the National Counterterrorism Center. And then he will meet with President Roh in the Oval Office later that day.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address today.
America's economy is on the right track. Over the past two years, we've added more than 3.5 million new jobs. More Americans are working today than ever before. Home ownership is at an all time high. Small businesses are flourishing. Factory output is growing. And families are taking home more of what they earn.
These are hopeful signs for our economy, and we must work hard to sustain that prosperity. When members of Congress return next week, they need to take action on four key priorities for the American people. [The President then discussed each of the four points. That is by far my favorite GWB quote and, frankly, my favorite one of his speeches. In my opinion, his first inaugural ranks among the greatest inaugural addresses ever -- certainly one of the most prophetic in hindsight -- although the media would never give him credit for that.
IMHO we just have to bury the ghost of any fair-minded MSM ... it hasn't happened, and we're into the 5th year and it won't happen. But, in spite of all that negative motion and conspiratorial collaboration .. all the mean cabals, W still stands tall ..head and shoulders among all.
Those who possess integrity and reason know what he's about in his heart of hearts, know he's been consistent and honorable, and more importantly .. there is concrete evidence globally of the depths of his beliefs, his sincerity in the right of all to freedom, and his willingness to commit to that mission.
I have a saying I find particularly profound and succinct. I think it applies here .. it was written by Mother Theresa.. and I find it so meaningful. I have it on my refrigerator to remind me often of the Big Picture and my purpose. I think W emulates a lot of this.
Anyway
People are often unreasonable, illogical or self-centered, forgive them anyway.
If you are successful, you will be sure to make some false friends and some true enemies. Be successful anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Be good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be good enough. Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God. It was never between you and them .. anyway.
I'M FRAMING IT - AND...MAKING IT A SCREENSAVER!!!! THAT'S GORGEOUS!!!!!!THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Isn't that picture BEAUTIFUL!
Well if your sick of Democrats attacking the president you are going to get sicker. Now John Kerry is going to call for the President's impeachment with the Downing (sp) Steet memo.
Your theory makes sense. Who knows if there really is a memo. It could be another Dan Blather type stunt. Here's another theory, I think the Dims are like a big swarm of mosquitos, they won't kill you, but they can sure be bothersome and make you miserable. I think that is what they are trying to do to GW. They can't stand his momentum and the spread of freedom through the world, for which he will be given much credit, so they are just going to be as bothersome and distracting as they can. They see his approval ratings going up. I think they know the impeachment thing is ridiculous and will never come to fruition but it will mean that resources and time would have to be diverted to deal with it, thereby putting a drag on GW's momentum. If they really think that their silly antics will have that effect, they have surely "misunderestimated" our W and his resolve. He'll steamroller right over them. If anything this garbage gets me so furious that it inspires me to get out and volunteer for the grassroots campaigns to get more of our people in the senate and congress. We need to fight to drive these Rats back to the sewers where they belong.
OK, I'm off my soapbox now, just needed to vent
It's okay to vent among friends.
You bring up some good points. Yes, the dems are like mosquitos - however, after a mosquito bites you - it dies doesn't it? - so I guess that's really like the dems because they are well on their way to being goners.
You're also right about their jealousy over Bush and the spread of freedom. Even international media are beginning to talk about the attitude change toward Bush. The dems are livid over it. They've expended so much energy in dissing Bush .. they just can't believe people would like him. Sick .. these people are sick.
Hope you have a great day!
Jonny
Sorry I didn't post back right away...had logged off. No, liking the Smithereens does not make you weird, there are plenty of bands or singers I like that I don't mention out loud though because I know they would make me weird. I even went so far to buy their records or tapes and still have them! 80's was a great time!
Oh, I expect Ann will get over it :)
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Starwise! (And the NyQuil!) Much appreciated!
Jonny
I expect so. In an interview, Kiefer Sutherland hinted that the next season of 24 might pick up where this one ended.
I did! And it was made even better by my fellow Freepers. (This is the first time I've been sent a "happy birthday" from Down Under :) Thank you very much, Oz!
Yes, NordP, it is. It speaks volumes and volumes about the impact GWB had has on millions of lives. People around the world have gotten his message, even if they don't yet have freedom in their own countries. And all the naysayers in our disgusting media and Dim party will never change that.
