Help is on the Way!!

I live on hwy 92, which runs parallel with I-80, in SE Iowa. A CONVOY of electrical utility trucks just went past my house, headed west. I think there were 7 of them.

I was deadheading roses and may not have gotten to count the first couple of them that passed.

Obviously, they are going to have them in position to go in to help with repairs/replacements once the storms move thru.

Thats what I love about FR, where else would I get info like that?! thanks Granny. Boy its hot and humid here in the DFW area. Looks ripe for some weather. Our latest forecast mentions an increased chance for big weather here although most is expected to the Red river and north.

A little town north of here where I worked in the 80's had a civil defense system of sirens to warn the town of tornadoes. Unfortunately, to activate the sirens, the police officers were required to climb up the pole, flip the switch, and climb back down the pole. Finally, they then had to drive the patrol car to their assigned overpass to keep it from being pinged to pieces by hail.

Sure made "man your post" a literal order. Trouble was, the sirens were so loud they almost blew you off the top of the pole, so we learned to carry ear plugs all the time. Of course, sometimes the wind would almost do the job, too.

The town I live in now has a nice button at the 911 center that they just flip. We have a siren about 30 feet outside our bedroom window, and they test it on Wed. each week. Had a roofer standing on the shed roof last summer when the thing went off just feet above his head. Guess what!!
