Where's the Lewinsky Tapes? A Freeper Questions

Posted on 06/04/2005 5:21:55 AM PDT by Shortwave

Now that we all know Felt "The Rat" is "Deep Throat" and we've been beaten over the head incessantly with the liberal news coverage of their "hero" I got to wonder....

I have been told that the sounds in the Oval Office is continuously recorded for historical purposes. I'm not sure if this is true, but I believe that's how President Nixon is recorded talking about the Watergate break-in.

My point is this, if it is recorded, it should be a public record and subjected to the Freedom of Information Act. Is it out of the realm of possibility that the salacious details of Bill and Monica's relationship are recorded? In particular, the "cigar" incident. We have the precise date and time that they were having relations since we all know that Monica was making Bill's "knees knock" while Sharon and Arafat were waiting in the Rose Garden.

O.K. It's still early, and I'm not sure where I'm going with this but I find it an interesting question anyway. My wife just rolls her eyes when I talk to her about these things, she just doesn't understand Freep Nation.

I don't think so.
I could be wrong, but it's my understanding Nixon recorded stuff simply because he wanted to. Recording what's said there would be a serious security risk IMHO.

That coincides with what I have always heard - that Nixon was passionate about the recordings which he planned to use as a resource for his memoirs.

Uhhh - if I recall correctly there were at least two Democrat presidents immediately preceding Nixon that started the practice of secretly recording Oval Office conversations. Note that these facts are frequently not mentioned by the OM; also it is a little known fact that John Kerry actually served almost 6 months in Vietnam!!

Every shred of evidence gathered during the investigation that culminated in the Senatorial Treason of 98 is locked away for about 43 more years.

They can't have anyone disseminating the depths of their betrayal to the public.

They don't record things in the oval office now. They'd be a juicy target for subpoenas from the administration's political opponents. For the same reason, GWB had to give up emailing, which he loved doing before becoming President.

I wonder whether taping goes on even now but is done with a knod-and-a-wink so there can be 'Plausible Denial'.

It was obvious Nixon was nuts over tapes, because all he had to do was destroy them and he would still be in office.

Really stupid move not to just destroy them and say theyre gone.
