A Border Patrol agent scans the horizon for signs of the driver of a drug-laden truck who fled after shooting an agent in the leg.

LIVE OAK SPRINGS -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent was wounded in the leg by a shotgun blast Friday morning when he tried to intercept a pickup truck loaded with hundreds of pounds of narcotics.
The unidentified agent, who is based in Campo, was taken by ambulance to a hospital. His wounds were not life-threatening, according to a Border Patrol spokesman.
Heavily-armed Border Patrol agents, backed by Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers, sealed off an area south of Interstate 8 between Live Oak Springs and Crestwood Road. Officers searched the area with dogs while two Border Patrol helicopters repeatedly swept the canyons alongside Old Highway 80.
The shooting occurred about 8 a.m., according to Border Patrol Agent Raul Martinez. The single occupant of the pickup shot the agent, then drove off in the truck before abandoning the vehicle a short time later and running into the brush.
By the time the gunman left his vehicle, "the truck was riding on its rims," Martinez said.
He said the shooting took place in the Tierra del Sol area near the U.S.-Mexico border, about 60 miles east of San Diego. The area is notorious for both drug and illegal immigrant smuggling.
According to American Border Patrol a San Diego Sector Border Patrol agent was shot and wounded this morning.. The shooting occurred around 6 am in the Tierra del Sol area of the Sector. Neighbors reported a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed entering the Campo Indian Reservation. It has been reported that the pickup truck has been found by authorities. Another neighbor who lives one half mile north of the border observed two shaved-head persons all in black heading for the Mexican border at about 6 am. No word on the condition of the agent.
Just running drugs, and shooting Border Patrol Agents that Americans won't...

I wonder just how bad all things related to illegal immigration and fluid borders have to get before the government, and both parties that make it up, decide it is time to do something about it.
I am convinced the government of the United States, in opposition to the people it supposedly represents, would take arms against any uprising people and put down any insurrection with force - just as the communist Chinese government did in Tienanmen Square.

Viva la Migra! (Long live the Border Patrol!)
A government that fails to abide by the constitution and the sovereignty of this nation is no government of mine.
"The answer is another 911 has to be attributed to our open borders."
I fear that you are right. Based on the evidence around the border crossings that Middle Easterners have indeed crossed into our country this way, I'd say it is just a matter of time before some other terrorist incident happens in the US.
"My frustration level has hit the boiling point."
The same can be said for many Americans. Our government is wrong on this one.
The military (Army) is increasingly composed of minority and foreign persons who have little or no knowledge of the Constitution. They will undoubtably take arms against the citizens. We can only hope that the officers that lead them are loyal to the Constitution. The only other consolation is that there are more of us than them and as long as we are armed they had better fear us.
Only the MS-13 gang insists that it's members stay shave-headed. Shooting at law enforcement when most would have high-tailed it immediately confirms my suspician. They're vicious animals who prove we need some National Guard and Reserves backing the Border patrol on a rotational basis. Not only is that the sensible response of a country suffering war-time conditions on it's border, it's the best training possible.
Cedillo and the new L.A. mayor has this incident to add to their sins. What's next?
Then the present one, failing miserably, must be a reject of yours also.
"Article I, Section 8, "The Congress shall have the power.... To provide for the calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and Repel Invasions;..."
Instead of the government calling forth the armed where they are needed, ie. the border, rest assured military action against demonstrations against it would be considered "constitutional". I am convinced the government has become too much for the citizenry to keep in check.
You've just mentioned a reality the citizens of the US had better awaken to. IMO, we should not allow persons who are not US citizens to serve in the Armed forces, and Constitutional rights should be a mandatory subject for high school graduates just like math.
The illegal alien invasion has taken a toll on this country's resources and its people. Anger is rising.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
Be Ever Vigilant!
