Rasmussen: Bush Job Approval at 53 percent (Highest in 3 months)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | June 3, 2005 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 06/03/2005 1:31:12 PM PDT by Nascardude

Friday June 03, 2005--Fifty-three percent (53%) of American adults approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President. That's his highest level of Approval in nearly three months. It remains to be seen whether this reflects a lasting change or merely statistical noise.

Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove of the President's performance.

The President's Approval Rating has been at the 50% level or above on six of the last seven days (and nine of the last twelve). Fifty-seven percent (57%) of men give the President's performance their Approval along with 49% of women.

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Americans have a favorable opinion of the U.S. military. Forty-nine (49%) say they did something special to celebrate Memorial Day.

Just 22% of Americans have a favorable opinion of the filibuster compromise reached last week in the U.S. Senate.

While the President's proposal for reforming Social Security has struggled, 51% of Americans still believe the New Deal program needs to be "fixed."

The most recent Hillary Meter found that 45% now view the former First Lady as politically liberal. That's down from 51% in January.

During 2004, reports on the President Job Approval were based upon surveys of Likely Voters. Typically, a survey of Likely Voters would report a Job Approval rating 2-3 points higher than a survey of all adults.

On Election Day, the President's Job Approval was at 52%. During all of 2004, the President's Job Approval ranged from a high of 57% in early January to a low of 48% on May 17.

The President's highest rating of 2005 was 54% on February 4.

How can his approval rating change over 3 months if he hasn't done anything in three months?

It means the OLD MEDIA isn't whining as much or they are whining about someone/something else.

Okay, where are all the people that stated the President's push for social security and stance on illegal aliens and so on were responsible for his popularity falling. he hasn't changed his position on either and his ratings are back up. Could it be neither is the reason his ratings go up and down?

And, please, let no one make the accusation I support amnesty nor am a firm believer in polls. Though if I'm to take any poll seriously it will be one of the few correct in the Presidential year, as RASS was. My problem is with those that use negative polls to advance their agenda and then are noticeably absent when the polls favor the President.

The President's ratings if affected by ANYTHING these past couple of months are gas prices (coincidentally falling), a particularly good day in foreign policy (Iraqi elections perhaps?) and level of MSM pounding.

I happen to support his SS plan, however I am in 100 perecent disagreement on his Illegal alien stance, and I know for a fact most Americans have that same view. That being said, here is the actual polls.

Strongly Approve 27%
Somewhat Approve 25%

I am in the somewhat approve category, which means his real support(on everything he has done) is actually 27%. So in essence, yes Illegal immigration and a few other things are hurting his popularity.

Glad he didn't take it on a weekend. The last Gallup/CNN poll I saw had it at 40%. Maybe CNN told Gallup to be sure to take it on the weekend. Thanks for the good news!

I'm torn over whether to even respond to this absurdity.

Polls have NEVER been broken the way you just did. The approve and somewhat approve are always grouped. This results at the final approval number. To attempt to change a polls standard operation to suit your agenda is, sorry, I'm not even going to pretend that is worth consideration.

Nor is it even rational to suggest half of that "somewhat approval" is based on the issue of YOUR choice without solid data. This is exactly what I was ranting about and I've heard enough of it.

The FACT is there are people on both sides that have an agenda and will use polls to attempt to advance that agenda. This is the main reason I'm sick of polling. It is propaganda. A form of manipulation. The main argument I made was that even people here on the board have been using polls to attempt to manipulate issues to their liking than do not have the courage to face up to a poll that disabuses their previous arguments.

In a perfect world I truly wish people would junk the polls and operate on Principle. THIS is a main factor of why I respect this President. Agree or disagree he doesn't give a damn what the polls say, he'll do what he believes. I find that refreshing, as opposed to using polls to attempt to manipulate policy or public opinion or to validate a stance on a issue.

Excellent. Time to use this newfound political strength to put our financial house in order. I expect a series of veto's for the upcoming "bloated" budget proposals.

Guess I missed something here. I just went to the website and looked at the poll breakdown which is what I posted, are you saying that is not what the poll said? Curious as to why you think its my agenda. I am reading from facts, and it was in reference to your Illegal quote.

So unless you can show me some facts that don't exist "Somewhat approve" does not equate to "Strongly approve", I always thought lumping polls together was a Libs trick.

Perhaps you can point where the 25% of "somewhat approved" is related to immigration? Give a direct link because I don't see it. If it doesn't exist you are attributing your theory to the poll and stating it as fact.

Second, show me an approval rating from ANY source that quotes ONLY "strongly approved" when giving the approval rating of a president. You won't find it, because it's not done. If you think that is a "Lib Trick" take it up with Rass, Gallop and every polling agency since the polling system was adopted. You are the one attempting to alter how polls are read. I refuse to take that seriously.

You said in your first post,

"Okay, where are all the people that stated the President's push for social security and stance on illegal aliens and so on were responsible for his popularity falling. he hasn't changed his position on either and his ratings are back up. Could it be neither is the reason his ratings go up and down?

And I stated that I happen to agree with Bush on SS but not on his Illegal Alien stance.Having said that, which part of the poll would I fit under? Strongly or Somewhat approve? Strongly means 100 percent, Somewhat means less then 100 percent. That means anyone who agrees with some issues but not all, will poll as "Somewhat Approve".

Could be Immigration, SS or how he wears his suit. It really doesn't matter, in your original post had you left off the part that I quoted above, my somewhat and strongly response would not have been needed.

If a few that disaproved of him (meaning they did not like anything he did) changed their minds to somewhat, then Bush's numbers would have gone up. Could have been anything. Maybe they like the way he wears his suit now, or maybe after hearing the Facts they like his SS stand, as someone said a while back, Polls can be made to say anything the taker wants. I would be more inclined to believe a poll taken on this site then random house to house ones.

Regarding polls, Mr Bush is in the enviable position of being able to look the mainstream media and say, "whogara".
