NYC-bound Virgin Air Flight 45 squawking Hijack code; being diverted to New Brunswick, Canada
ABC News | 6-3-5 | ABC News

Posted on 06/03/2005 7:25:05 AM PDT by Petronski

The pilot says the hijack code is an error and the plane is secure, but naturally the authorities are not trusting him.

Flight 45 squawking Hijack code

The pilot will be squawking when he finds out how much trouble he's in. Just a joke, but I bet the guy feels bad for all the hoopla.

Well, if it's truly his fault, I think his career is in for a world of hurt.

You are correct. My mistake. The Navy had modified 12 F-4Bs into F-4Gs beginning in 1963 for ACLS testing. Those birds were later flown by VF-213 off of the Kitty Hawk over Vietnam and then later returned to F-4B configuration. They aren't to be confused with the Air Force F-4Gs which were modified F-4Es.

The F-4E was the first Phantom to have leading edge slats. You probably witnessed sea trials/carrier quals of some slat equipped Es or Js before the Ss were introduced into the fleet. The J was very similar to the E.

Say what? Does this mean it hasn't grown an extra set of wings?

They could have said the plane looked plain, eh!

"A total of 1387 F-4Es were built before production came to an end. 993 of these machines were intended for the USAF, with the remaining 394 being delivered new to foreign customers."

Click here for lots of F-4E info

You have to excuse me for not using all the correct letters for the varying models of the same airframe.
It is ignorance on my part I agree, but they all look the same to me.
When I said the USAF, I meant the nations air defences in general, whether they be air force, navy, marines, national guard. My mistake for not being more specific.

I have a quick question ... why are these planes diverted to Canada?

Because if they blow up Canada, nobody cares...

The plane in the foreground was the CF-102 Avro Arrow which was never built.

Actually, it WAS built AND flown. I believe they had 6 of them built. However, the Canadian government, in its infinite wisdom, cancelled the project.

Speaking of Halifax, wasn't this the airport and area that showed all that hospitality to Americans on 9-11?

Halifax, NS ... Moncton, NB ... Gander, NF ... and many more. Check out my profile for a couple of pics from Gander.
